It may seem that way, but even though I have quite a few MBs I actually prefer the Japanese Pens (Sailor, Pilot, and others) for moderns and truly treasure the vintage-eyedroppers with flexy nibs that I have for journaling and writing.

I've owned and driven BMWs and Alfa and Mercedes and many, many many other brands but the BMWs fell pretty near the bottom of the heap and the damn Datsun 410 simply mopped up the track against my favorites the Alfa and the BMWs that others liked.

I've owned Montblanc and quite a few other fine pens as well as the Lamy 2000 (gave that one away to a friend as a good beginners fountain pen).

Montblanc is the best pen out there nor my favorites but it is high quality with until fairly recently in the US very good after sale support. They also tend to hold their value over time.

To say that a Lamy 2000 is a better pen than a Montblanc is as silly as saying that a BMW is a better car than a high end Japanese or French or British or American brand.

It's fine to say that you prefer your Lamy 2000 to the Montblancs you've owned or used. No one would even question such a statement but to say that status is the only reason shows a lack of understanding human nature.

Actually a wood effect lacquer. A bit interesting they went that route, but it works. I have a couple of MBs in natural wood - eg l’aubeac - which work really well so seemed possible.

Just acquired a new pen, a David Broadwell kit pen finished by an Etsy vendor, InnovArtisan. I didn't know that David created kit pens.
