Help a Dorklehead understand this vintage Seiko

This Perpetual Seiko… I just don’t get it. What does the second crown do? If it has a day and date in the window, what are the days on the outside of the dial? What is the separate 31 day date? The picture is not mine, borrowed from Ebay, and the model number is: 7006

Can someone explain it? Thanks

FYI.

Hub City:

This Calendar model from June of 1973 is a truly beautiful blend of form and function. In addition to the day and date window, the border of the dial is laid out in a “days of the week” motif. These days coincide with numerals evenly spaced along the glossy black inner bezel that can be rotated using the larger crown at two o’clock. Once properly aligned, the crown is pressed into its locked position, and at a glance, you can determine the day of the week for any given day of the current month. Not only is this an extremely useful application, Daini did an amazing job of making it one of the most aesthetically pleasing calendars you’ve ever had the opportunity to wear. The dial is a rich cobalt blue sunburst with polished applied markers, and each is separated by the baby blue segmented minute chapter. The hands are polished and striped in white, and sweeping around the dial is a thin, flat white second hand. The case is a broad tonneau shape reaching 40mm through the center, and its topped with a wide flat bezel that easily slides under a traditional shirt cuff. It comes attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet that seamlessly transitions from the case, and is comfortable on the wrist.

Do you have google in the States?

Adam would heve been too young to have one in 1973?

Google…? Your words are foreign to me stranger

Thanks for the explanation Eddie. Honestly, I think I have to play with an actual model to understand it completely.

It is a bit of a dorky complication.

The only point for the outer 31 day black dial, which is turned with the big crown, is to align it to the days of the week on the main dial.

Being able to look at any day of the month on that ring, and seeing if it is a sat or a tues, likely has limited use.
