Platona
For those that have acquired through AD, how long was your wait?
Is there a difference in difficulty between the brown sub-dial and Diamond baguette version? |

I remember when they sat in AD cases. Now, close to impossible. The used market price has come down some more, but where it got to, made new from an AD impossible for the normal person.

Diamond baguette version is more difficult to get I believe. Good Luck!

I remember when I first joined TRF six years ago this month, the non-baguette version was $45K all day long with a grey deaer. I don't recall baguette version, probably 50k though. Back then, you could easily get a huge discount at the AD and you would be treated like a total VIP with that AD for buying one too. First in line for anything else your heart desired. |

Obviously depends on the AD, but I have not gotten mine yet and have been in line for 6 months with preference on brown sub dial. There were a few people ahead of me then and I believe they said there were more folks waiting for brown sub dials than diamonds at the time I expressed interest last summer.

Curious too. I waited on list for almost a year in 2021 for baguette version, AD said none came in, offered me a platinum DD40 instead and told me Platona wasn’t going to happen for me any time soon because not enough non-Rolex purchase history. I went grey for standard dial and paid way, way too much. I never wear it and keep thinking about dumping it.

I walked in and bought mine but that was four years ago; I just let it go. Also received a 20% discount at the time.

Same! I remember I was in Vegas summer 2016 and they had both just sitting in the display. I tried it on and would never forget the heft!

They receive very limited numbers a year. So how long you wait really depends upon where you are on the VVIP list ... and when they arrive if you are the chosen one.

IIRC when it came out on the gray market after it settled it was trading for less than MSRP. Now for some reason there seems to be demand for them. |

I was offered one last month but passed. I hadn’t asked for one but my AD offered. As much as I love the piece I just couldn’t justify cost vs how much I’d wear it.
It was a tough decision and I debated whether I was making a mistake but it was the right decision for me… |

I know someone who picked one up recently. Let's just say he's a BIG spender. I'm also aware of a wealthy individual who cannot get one, at least not yet. Here, AD's get around 1 a year, maybe. Of course, YMMV.
A mate, several years ago was in Florida ( I think) and was told if he bought the Platona in the case he would give him any other piece with it. He passed at the time, needless to say he's kicking himself now. My how things have changed... |

I think it makes a great daily, but if it were one of many in a collection it would be harder for me to justify. I probably have only gone 5 or 10 days in the last six years without wearing mine. I used to try to wear my old DJ once a month, but gave up on that. I admit I got mine slightly used at the end of 2016 when they were a lot less expensive than now. I don't know if I could talk myself into one at MSRP, but thankfully don't have to face that decision. Some hate the weight, some hate the brown bezel, some just hate. I love everything about it.

One recently sat on EBay and Chrono24 for weeks at $87k US. Mint condition. Reputable dealer. No buyers and now removed, not sold on EBay. If you look at completed EBay listings, lots of listings for the 116506 Platona and Zero sales. I personally think it is a poor investment, so I would buy it if I really enjoyed it. I think it is a beautiful watch.

Like many pieces in the watch world looks like the wait is 6-12 months or never. Just depends on the buyer..

Passed on one that was sitting in the case in Orlando back in 2016, I would have taken it but they weren't willing to discount.

My SA told me that he had never seen the Platinum Daytona with baguettes and said his company does not get very many. I do remember when the Daytona was selling in the 50's brand new. My have things changed.
