You could trade for the LV sub with a little cash and keep some green splash in there. Most dealers would trade you straight for a black sub (to their benefit).

2ndary sellers' asking price is not what they offer to an individual wanting to sell their piece.

For example, a 126610LN and a 126334Blsj are at least 25K to acquire from a 2ndary reseller. The same combo does NOT equal a TT CHNR plus cash. Not even a straight swap for a CHNR at market price of 22K.

2ndary sellers will use VAT, current market, any blemishes etc. to their advantage in a low ball bid.
They still take a risk and have to keep the lights on.

Hmm, OP states up grade? I don't think so. Just a different watch that happens to be popular. The DJ is probably worth more than the Sub at MSRP. But to trade even up at a AD with the hype driven prices on the Subs, The Submariner is worth more to the AD's because it's a "hot" model (at the moment).

The hype driven customers will drool over any Submariner at the moment. Not so much over the DJ. The DJ, (IMO) is the nicer watch. But the heart wants what the heart wants. You will have to decide which you really desire (which should of been done before you purchased anything).

I've done plenty of trades and deals. This is a pretty close deal and not worth further hypothetical discussion. If OP wants to solicit bids and let us know it will save us this trivia.

Just to add a additional comment OP. I think you done very well already. The DJ you purchased is a very fine piece. I would be pleased to own such a watch. If I were you I would just keep the DJ and enjoy it as many, MANY other DJ owners do.

Some guy gets a brand new DateJust, then gets right on to an internet site and in his first post asks strangers if he ought to flip it for a Submariner…

To me, it doesn’t seem like a legitimate question, more like throwing some chum in the water and watching who comes to feed.

you should know what you want...but I would def. go to a grey dealer and try the watch first, just in case you need to upgrade again...

Don’t think that makes the OP a flipper, he’s entitled to change his mind and procure a different watch if his taste changes / the new watch is not what he thought would be / see something else that likes more.

I wouldn’t call that an upgrade though, maybe a matter of preference… The final decision is yours.

IMO, the "upgrade" for the DJ is the DD. A Sub goes well with either.

Don’t consider that an upgrade. Unless you like subs a lot more. But then why did you buy the DJ?
