Tracking down your watch ...

Anyone know if there is a way to track down a watch that you sold? similar to a 'carfax' except for a watch.

I had one of my watches years ago that showed up in the preowned section of a local store and found it when I asked to see the box and papers, of course I had to buy it as it seemed destined to return to me.

Statistically, your situation is extremely improbable. Rolex's estimated annual manufacturing is ~1M watches. To re-find an exact catalogue watch would be incredibly rare, unless it's truly unique in some way and marketed as such.

No real search or records like that which I'm aware of. Google search sometimes will bring up some old for sale ads of the watch if the S/N was listed. Or, if there's a discussion somewhere online in which the specific watch is being discussed.

There is no known data base for used watches as they are not registered anywhere.

If a given watch has been serviced by an RSC, Rolex will have a record of the person who sent it in for repair. Because of privacy laws, there's no chance they'd tell a random third party the identity of the person who had it serviced, and even if they did there's the possibility it has changed hands multiple times since it was serviced.
