Aviation lovers-Air, Air, and Air

Lazy boring Sunday so with all the land, air, and sea threads how about we do all air. One of my loves other then Rolex and guitars is flying.

Hopefully my Paris trip in February 2022 doesn’t get cancelled because my wife and I are really really excited.

Fantastic collection! I, too, have been missing the friendly skies. Fingers crossed that we are able to put these purpose-made travel pieces back in action soon. My GMTs are just tracking time zones for fun these days. ;-) Thanks for sharing. Good theme.

Thank you. And me too. Last time I flew was April to Cabo. Which oddly enough I wore my SDK

Read to many “is it safe” threads. Hell for the matter when and if I get to go to Paris I may go watch less

LOL, this is so breaking the rules for me (I'm a Sea/Land/Air guy) but you can bet if I had unlimited funds I would do it. It's like saying I'm supposed to have only 1 strat 1 tele in my collection, yeah right.

Nice collection there Anthony.

The Explorer II is very much a land watch, but as it’s yours and the AM/PM indicator doubles up as a GMT hand, you can use it for whatever purpose serves you best!

Yeah I thought about that with the EXP II. Guess I was cheating a tad and thinking Exp land and EXP II air.

I don’t have anything else so I got creative lol

It’s a GMT hand. It’s not binary day/night, it sweeps and tells the time. It takes 24 hours to do a full sweep of the dial. There’s a 24 hour scale on the bezel. It’s (now) the same movement as the GMT II.

It can still be an AM/PM indicator when ‘Exploring’ your basement for extended periods (or caves I guess).

Thanks for the lesson in egg sucking pal, I've owned a polar dial Exp II and currently own a GMT Master II so know all about their functions

The primary function of the 24 hour hand on the 216570 / 226570 is a day / night indicator, There is no debate to be had here, the fact that you can use it as both a GMT or day/night indicator is a mere bonus.

From the Rolex website regarding the 226570:

The Explorer II is equipped with an additional 24-hour display; a dedicated hand circles the dial in 24 hours rather than the usual 12, pointing to a fixed bezel with 24 hour graduations. This function enables the wearer to distinguish the hours of the day from the hours of the night, an essential feature for those who venture into environments where darkness reigns supreme – such as in the depths of caves, or where the sun never sets – like the polar regions in summer.

I know this is splitting hairs, and my response to the OP was tongue in cheek.

Oh come on now. The man did throw for over 500 yards and set NFL records in that loss. So that L goes to BB, the defense, the whole Malcolm Butler mystery, etc etc

Not the GOAT
