Plane Lavs/Revenue: Interesting Article

Hi folks!

As I read this article, I thought about many of you who fly to make a living and feel sorry, also, for the parents with kiddos or handicapped trying to use the cramped facilities on today's commercial aircraft.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/...lane-bathrooms

Have a great day!

I fly weekly, fortunately Im pretty skinny so no issues here.

But yeah... Its starting to get annoying how all the airlines does everything to cut costs. But as the article says it's the customers to blame, people choose flights primarily on price. Cheapest flights possible is what the bulk of people go for.

The link won’t work for me
If you haven’t flown on the 737Max, you’re in for a real treat. It’s almost impossible to turn around. And be careful standing by the door if you’re waiting

At 6'10", anything having to do with an aircraft is painful. Granted, it may be the safest place for me because I know damn well I won't be moving if the plane hits some turbulence.

I’d say that bothers me less than the flush buttons having double the bacteria of your own bathroom.

Despite multiple cleanings each day...

Researchers found that the flush buttons had 265 CFU/sq. in. (Colony Forming Units).

Hi yes, thanks
Washington Post article worked and accurate. Can’t blame Boeing or other airlines manufacturer. It’s the airlines companies squeezing every penny out of travelers.

On another note, If you haven’t flown Premium Economy Extra or similar it’s worth the extra money especially for 1-2 hour flight. Anything over 2 hours jump to first where the bathrooms are bigger, thank the pilots

The seatback trays are worse. Rarely cleaned thoroughly and exposed to almost everything those buttons get.

Again this is a symptom of the consumer wanting the cheapest price possible.

And of course airlines are commoditizing people. They sell space. The more they can fit, the better for them.

I hate to fly. I pay extra or use points or miles to upgrade. It’s worth every penny to me. You get what you pay for.

I flew first class last summer on a trip across country with my wife. It was well worth the upgrade price.

Pretty soon the cheapest fare will be some sort of strapped in standing room only arrangement.

Like in the roller coaster rides where your feet hang.

Exactly. Customers DEMAND cheaper prices. Then when they get conditions that reflect the cheaper prices...they DEMAND more/better amenities.

All kidding aside about 2-3 years ago a manufacturer actually patented seats like that! They looked like pogo sticks with a bicycle seat attached to them. Wish I could find the link.

I try my best to avoid the 737 max planes on my routes. I've almost 100% of the time been delayed due to those faulty sensors.

I'm not really sure what this means. Almost everyone wants to pay the least amount of money for whatever they buy. But it was the airlines who decided they wanted to be a cargo hauler and made seats smaller, aisles narrower and washrooms miniature, not the public. It was the airlines that oversell flights which essentially means they sell some seats to more than one person. They, like all corporations play the maximizing profits game. Now they charge for luggage.

If the airlines wanted to have comfortable roomy cabins they could. They would just have to decide to make slightly less profit or sell tickets at a higher price.

I don't see where this is consumer driven. It's the companies that want to maximize profits. If they could design the plane interiors like a slave ship and get away with it they would.

People choose the lowest fair knowing any airline they choose will suck. Between the experience with TSA, the terminal, and crappy airlines, flyers know they are in for a bad day when they fly. So why pay extra to be miserable.

The airlines have long considered people to be cargo. If the FAA and NTSB didn't mandate safety features (such as egress), airlines would stuff people into the luggage bays too.
