<<< Omega Speedy vs Heuer Autavia >>>

If you don't want to wait for a Daytona C or pay
the premium...

Which of these fine 2 specimens which you choose ?
Not looking at special grey or dark side of the moon
references.

Have been tossing the idea around and have seen a
nice panda dial Autavia that has caught my attention
more so than the Omega Speedmaster...

Which has a more richer history but much more
a better watch all around? Movement , finish, fit,
servicing and of course time keeping... ?

Haven't had an Omega yet. But have a Tag Aquaracer. Bought in 2009, serviced once, still running great despite the abuse. I use when swimming, spa, lawn mowing and cooking.

Autavia gets my vote. Good looks in both SSbracelet or leather strap. It's bang for your buck.

If you want to spend a bit more then Omega. Co-axial of course.

I was disappointed when the Daytona came out. We waited a long time for this watch and all Rolex did was slap a ceramic bezel on a SS Daytona. I was hoping for something more like my old 6263. It’s a great success regardless but I would not overpay for one. I have owned a Gray Side of the Moon and the Heuer Autavia 02. I got bored with the Omega but I still have the Heuer. It’s fit and finish are very nice and the double beads of rice bracelet is amazing. I do wish it was 40mm though like my old Heuer 2446 GMT ( perfect proportions).

<<< Omega Speedy vs Heuer Autavia >>>

The Autavia’s bezel serves a more practical purpose than the Omega’s tachymètre methinks.

(Anyone think it pretentious that Omega insists on the use of the inflected, grave accent mark “è” in tachymètre)

I'd pick the classic speedmaster.

Your black dial Autavia looks similar to the white dial
I saw that looks intriguing except for the bezel. The bezel was
different and it was 42 mm case size.
That bead bracelet looks sharp I might add.

Is the Co-axial movement on the Omega much better than
that of the Autavia ?

Both are really good looking watches!
I think the Omega gets my vote though.
Beautiful dial, classic design.

Thanks Bas... Would you say the Omega
Co-axial is a better movement or on par with
the Heuer 02 movement?

The classic Speedmaster I thought we were discussing doesn't have a co axial movement.

Hard to argue with the Speedy heritage. Many fans. For straight looks on the modern renditions, I like the Autavia. I have had a few Speedy's over the years but never seem to bond with them. Same with the Daytona. I just think I am not a chrono guy. The Chrono's I really like are too much $$$ and even then who knows if I would like it to actually wear.

I have contemplated one of the Autavia's over the last year or so.

I would take the Autavia all day long over that Omega.

The one shown, yes. But would you pick the Autavia over the classic plexi Speedmaster?

Hard to go against the Speedy on strap, but on bracelet, it’s a tougher call.

Also, the SE Autavia is pretty nice, too.

I would pick this over Daytona C (at the current going pricing)

I also thought about the Autavia, great movement (on paper). I ended up didn't get it because it felt like "just another chronograph" (that's just me)

If for the manual Speedmaster, I would get the sapphire sandwich. I am beginning to appreciate a manual wind 12hr chronograph with displace back. (again, that's just me)

Not a huge Heuer fan - but I think the Autavia is one of the nicer watches in their offering
Can't go wrong with either IMHO

Yeah, me neither... This Autavia reference is the only
offering that has caught my attention from Tag...

Out of the two probably Omega Speedmaster has the most interesting story.
If you compare the proportions of the Autavia with the Speedmaster Professional Chronograph; both are 42mm, but Speedmaster is slightly more slimmer (approx. 2mm).
Omega Co-Axial Chronograph is 44mm, wears largest among the three.
For the movement my vote goes for Autavia.
It has an automatic winding movement, offering 75 hours of power reserve, while Speedmaster Professional has a manual wind movement and offering 48 hours of power reserve.
Autavia having the vertical clutch makes the start/stop functions of the chronograph more consistent. Column-wheel action is very solid. Plus it has a date window at 6 o’clock.
Also you can check for the new Heuer Carrera LE (fragment edition) which has the same movement as the Autavia but offered in 39mm case.
