I hear so much hang up over this, I don’t get it. Aquanauts meanwhile are trading for 30k plus and are SS on an inferior rubber strap to the Oysterflex

It's just a personal thing for me. If I'm paying for a gold watch, I want the gold bracelet, not a hunk of rubber. I'd rather the Daytona come on a gold bracelet and I add the oysterflex (or something aftermarket) later.

Tough choice. Both are great watches. I don’t own the white gold but do have a couple of oysterflex options. If I had to keep my smurf or Daytona, I’d probably keep the Daytona. But it’s real close.

It's all down to your personal liking.....I looked at both myself and ended with the Smurf. Rubber threw me off on the Daytona.

I cannot imagine myself trading a full PM watch for rubber. Rubber on SS (eg. aquanaut) is super but if I'm paying gold watch money I need a solid gold bracelet.

I wouldn't do this trade ;)

I don’t like the Oysterflex even though my wife does. She has the 116655 Rose Gold Yachtmaster on Oysterflex and she wears it everyday all the time

I have to have the the Bracelet... period.

While the oysterflex is certainly not the same as a full gold bracelet, there is some reflection of that fact in the price with $8k between the two. In both cases, a certain portion of the value is not in the amount of precious metal utilized, much like all luxury watches. Honestly, for me it comes down to which do you prefer. I personally don’t have any opposition to an expensive watch with a rubber strap and actually think the rubber is incredibly versatile. I have a WG OF Daytona and an aquanaut and wear both with everything from suit and tie to jeans and a t shirt and never feel out of place at either end of the spectrum.

And, rubber straps are comfortable. I would say that the OF strap is also an elevated rubber strap as well.

I prefer the smurf personally. If it was the blue dial WG Daytona I would make the trade.

Think the Daytona has greater wrist presence, but just can’t get over the rubber strap.
So I’d stay with the Smurf.

Like the proportions much better on the Daytona personally. That would be my choice. Aside from that the blue of the Smurf is just too in your face for me.

I love the Smurf. I would only get rid of it for a yellow gold Daytona with green dial.

I love the Smurf. And I can't stand a rubber band on a watch. So you know my vote.

If you are the kind of person who could afford a smurf I don’t understand the need to trade it in for a totally different piece. The 2 complement each other perfectly

Would keep the smurf. I really like mine. The current iteration of the sub is likely going to be discontinued and perhaps like the WG GMT it may come back but with a different dial (perhaps not matte and more sunburst). The polished center links give it quite a bit of wrist presence imho.

Only issue is its a scratch magnet ;/

I have the smurf too, and a few daytona. I don’t see their genre to be compatible as a comparison. Its simply down to personal taste and, if you’re tired of the smurf, flip it.

I own both and they wear very differently. The smurf is much heavier but much easier to read, especially in low/no light. I like the sportiness of the OF on certain occasions but it wears much smaller, is harder to read, and has very little lume to read in low/no light. The OF bracelet is very comfortable and the watch does not wear top heavy. If I had to choose one, it would be the smurf (no contest). I like the versatility of having both but find myself wearing the OF only on weekends as an occasional. I wish Rolex would make the Daytona OF dial larger and add more lume. In the end, buy what you like and will enjoy wearing.

My thought is to keep as much as possible since you may go full circle later and miss the ones that you let go.

Unfortunately for me, the Aqua is trading much higher than that before I snagged one...
