How to use Cape Cod and avoid the micro scratches

Hi,
I have been doing a bit of polishing of the shiny SS parts today and wondered about why the Cape Cod cloths seem to do a good basic job of polishing up the gold or SS parts but leave micro scratches.
My prefered polish is Simichrome and it is good for removing scratches but it can leave some micro scratches if you do not use a fine cloth etc.
I normally use a camera lens cloth wrapped around the end of a cotton bud dipped into the Simichrome as the application tool.
After getting most of the scratches out I took a fresh cloth and dipped it into the solution that bathes the Cape Cod cloths. I think the Cape Cod fabric is quite harsh and it is this that causes the micro scratches.
I set to work again just using the Cape Cod liquid to wet the end of the lens cloth/ cotton bud tool.
This is much less abrasive and the micro scratches were virtually none existant on the shiny metal.
So in conclusion, Simichrome to remove most of the marks and then Cape Cod liquid for the final polish without micro scratches. Both applied using the cotton bud/ lens cloth technique. Apply less pressure with the Cape Cod liquid as you complete the job.

I too found Simichrome too harsh. I follow a similar routine:
1. wrap the Cape Cod cloth around a cotton swab and polish gently
2. remove the cloth and use the same swab to polish again gently
3. use a clean cotton swab and polish again
4. remove residue
5. wash

I only use soap and water on mine. Gave up buffing the TT because it gets micro scratches so easily in the gold. Maybe once a year for the TT GMT IIC but my others, never bother. Adds character!

I'll have to try using the Cape Cod juice on lens cloth. Those after-polish micro scratches are really annoying.
