This was me a few months ago, left the Rolex scene for a few years....

The batman has been discontinued in its current guise. Its been replaced with a jubilee bracelet and new movement which has yet to hit ADs so thats fuelled demand/hype.

The hulk has always been in demand, here in the UK I've had no luck at all trying to find one with a fairly decent spend history.

The market is very different to how it was a few years ago. Hard to get models are now near impossible to get without a big spending history at an AD, and therefore grey dealers have priced accordingly.

Hope that helps!

I got a smaller shock when I saw a BLNR for 16.500 EUR in the window yesterday. Literally doubled from what I sold mine 1,5 years ago.

So you must have a strong seller’s remorse now.

Yes, but only for the money, don't miss the watch. I do miss the GMTc LN which I sold to get the BLNR though.. will never buy it back at these prices.

Bubbles don’t pop these days, if anything they slightly deflate before stabilising. And they may not happen for many years yet.

Batman on oyster was recently discontinued and the Hulk has been steadily rising due to lack of available stock. This market is wacky right now.

Brexit is getting softer, Trump is getting unimpeachable, the world is moving away from extreme events that could really trigger a black swan, looks like it will be just normal econ up and downturns ahead.

Is it the reason why I don’t see too many 16610 for sale?
Are they going to upgrade the model for 116610 too.

Probably no upgrades to the 116610 as this is their main bread and butter piece. I can only speculate for Basel 2020 is that the 116610 Will be available in that rose gold with jubilee bracelet - so nasty.

What drives prices IMO is the expection of future increase of value. When those expectations end the prices will go down.

You could buy one now and they may rise another 40% next year.

Why? Well. Because gray dealers continue to increase the prices and customers continue to buy them. Nothing more. Nothing less. They wouldn’t be listed so high if they didn’t sell.

Currencies are worth less. You need more and more of them each year.

I’m very happy with my Sub and I’m not chasing the price. I thought the Batman/Hulk still going for $8-9000 then I will add it to my collection.

Isn’t the point of a BSE that it can’t be predicted based on known factors? I have to be honest I only read about half of the book in college. Was a bit dry even for a finance student

Price jump a lot

We all want to buy at last year’s price and when ready to sell, double that.

Have seen too many threads gleefully saying they lost $$$

Demand and supply drive the price so currently an issue heating up the resale market.

The MSRP hasn’t really been hugely gaining - just secondary markets.

Prices for Rolex in general are over inflated. Same watch from 10 years ago but double in price.
