I have both but the 16710 in coke or all black configuration, not Pepsi.
I will let go the BLNR easily, even if I'm loving it...because the 16710 is so versatile (and I prefer vintage watches...like my GMT Grail, the 1675...).

I’d keep the BLNR as I’m a fan of modern Rolex watches.

Agree with everyone else - keep the one that’s no longer in production.

The BLNR hype won’t last forever, might as well use it to your advantage!

Not a fan of 5 digits but never understood the appeal of the BLNR.
I'd sell them both and buy a BLRO or a CHNR

FWIW...
I sold my Pepsi unlike everyone else, who have posted.

My reasons were simple.

The New 116710 reference is a product improvement of the older reference, whether it is a pepsi, root beer, coke, or just black.
New case, bracelet, clasp, dial and movement.
Then the the king of all improvement...
The bezel!!!

When my red aluminum printed bezel insert faded the first time, I was so disappointed, I was ready to sell the watch instantly, and use it to buy the newly released LN (116710-01) GMT-Master IIc. My AD told me to wait because the 16710 was discontinued, and it would rise in value.
I was reluctant, but I waited, to see what would come with the new ceramic.

The price tag was high for the ceramic, and I wasn't liquid enough to make the buy, so I waited.
In 2013, when the BLNR was released (116710-02), I knew this would be the next GMT for me.

I bought it, and kept my Pepsi as a daily wearer for three years.

Then like the OP asked, I decided I didn't need both. Which Would I sell?

Like I mentioned above, I was so disappointed with the red insert fade, the New Ceramic bezel, with engraved platinum dusted numerals was the clear winner.

My Pepsi sold for a nice price, and allowed me some return on my patience.
It helped find another Rolex, and I couldn't be happier with the decision.

I think the answer is it depends. If you're a well established collector who has a 8+ piece collection, I would probably keep the pepsi and sell the batman. It's a more "collectible" piece because people love pepsis more than other GMTs for some reason.

If I had a <5 piece collection, though, the old GMTs are far too flimsy and chintzy feeling to feel comfortable to wear it in the rotation. I have a coke (I have a 4 piece collection that I regularly wear) from the early 90's and it's getting the axe from the collection because I just don't feel like it has the same level of durability as the 6 digit models. The older bracelets with hollow links are just not what the new ones are, not to mention that you also get EZ link and ceramic with new models.

Love both of course. Id keep my 16710, it took a year to find the right one and a week to get my batman at msrp. That doesnt mean i like the Blnr any less but it would be easier to replace down the road and its at a pretty high price right now. It seems the 16710 has stabilized but i cant see it going down in price but the Blnr may.

bye bye BLNR. It's an easy decision. Your pepsi is vintage, no more of that style, the BLNR is current and not only that, the new one has a better movement than yours.

I have the BLNR on oyster and a 16700 Pepsi on Jubilee. If I had to sell one then it would be a difficult decision as both offer something slightly different for the Rolex collector.

What I will say is that my 16700 gathers more interest from greys because it's more unique being on a jubilee and in prestine condition. The BLNR on the other hand they have stopped buying due to the market being flooded with them so make of that what you will. As an aside, I have no intention of flipping either and only went in to the greys to see if they had anything juicy on display.

On the one hand the 16700 is near vintage and unique so should be a no brainer. However, the BLNR on oyster is discontinued and offers more wrist presence for those that buy to show off. The current hype market suggests the BLNR is the one to keep but what happened to all the hype for the SD4K immediately after it was discontinued?

What watch could you possibly want to buy that would make you want to get rid of one of these two?

GMT Pepsi 16700 - Advice

Guys, Sorry I have not been as active as in the past, but need some advice. I have a 16700 GMT Pepsi with holes, and considering letting it go. I am not the original owner, so I do not have papers, but I did have it appraised by a certified Rolex appraiser and have the paper to confirm the model number and the serial number.

According to the appraisal, everything is original except the crystal was replaced with a sapphire crystal. The watch is in very good shape and looks beautiful.

Seeing some of the prices people are selling here, I was considering selling it. I am getting engaged in a few months, and although I do have money to buy the ring, I just honestly do not wear the watch that often. Maybe once every month.

I would love some advice or thoughts.

Thanks,

Larry

I’d keep the 5 digit one. It’s 6 watches in one!

Batman is unique and cool. The Pepsi has been around for years. In these modern times I would choose the Batman.
