Scratches on my new sub!

Am I the only one stressing scratching my watch? I picked a brand new sub in February, I am very careful with it and it seems to be picking up scratches only on the polished area. I have about 2 or 3 on each side. I even bought a beater seiko to not scratch the Rolex as much and my seiko hasn’t picked up a scratch. I don’t even know where my scratches are coming from. Maybe wedding ring? I really just want to wear it 24/7 and not worry about it. Does anyone else feel like the more careful you are you pick up more scratches or am I just over thinking it? Would like to see what a watch worn over a few years looks like.

You're over thinking it. It's a Rolex - not a Lange. It's meant to be worn and bumped around.

Ya unfortunately, that Sub is a throw away now.. I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted!

I am just joking OP. It's a watch after all. It's stupid expensive (by relative measure) but its still an instrument or at least once intended. Everyone freaks out with their first watch or scratches. But you will get use to it. It's yours! Enjoy it.

It’s kinda normal to get a little bothered by a scratch on a brand new watch.

What’s not normal is going through great lengths to keep it pristine forever.

Time to let it go, if it’s causing you stress. Minor scratches will happen.

I purposely bought a sub without papers and some character because I knew I’d be freaking out and not enjoying it if I bought it new. Now any dents or scratches are just making it mine.

I'm the same way. I look at my YM and Day Date every day closely and worry about scratches. The more days go by, the less it bothers me. They'll all be polished out during the next service in 5-10 years. Wear it and enjoy it. It's meant to be a daily beater.

I know the feeling. I picked up my sub 5 days ago, found a minor scratch and freaked out a little. But like everyone says, its a watch and its inevitable, just enjoy it.

I know the feeling scratched my new GMT Master ll a day after getting it, I wear it daily and use it as intended. One would not believe how many objects are in a cockpit that potentially could scratch a watch but as everyone said with time the horrible feelings pass.

OP just don't wear it if you're going to worry about it. Or you can just wear it and enjoy it. Own your watch and don't let it own you.

Rolex steel is capable of high polish which I understand makes it slightly softer than the 316 used on most steel watches.

After about 3-6 months you will get past that phase and just enjoy putting mileage on it.

Wear it well ! The watch can handle it.

Horrible that first meaningful scratch, managed to acquire a good scratch on the clasp of my DJ lifting stone pots at the garden centre, wasn't planning on calling in so hadn't swapped for my beater.

Never mind its a memory and a story to tell.

CONGRATS!!! Now with that out of the way you can wear 'em like I do as daily beaters. Welcome to the club, you're one of us now.

Overthinking. A watch is so active on the wrist. It will scratch and no matter how careful you are, you may even ding it here and there. It is inevitable. I think you will get over it. If not, I’d say move on. I’d never own something that expensive if I didn’t enjoy it.

You’ll get over it soon enough and learn to love them. I hear ya though- it took me damn near a year to just relax and appreciate developing a patina on my 114060. A lot of these watches actually look better with some patina, especially the 214270 Explorer.

Have fun, relax and enjoy. These watches will outlast all of us!

Watches are made to be worn. When worn, scratches will occur. Enjoy your watch, we all have scratches on the watches we wear regularly

As somebody here said the other day, make peace with imperfections, your quality of life will go up significantly. True of a lot of other things in life too.

PS I doubt anyone else will get close enough to your watch to notice, and if they did they wouldn't care. Even if it were scratched enough to lessen the value, most of us here are well enough off it won't change out life, the Rolex appreciation in value over the years will make up for it anyway.

That's my thinking too, buy a pre-loved watch with some wear for less money, I'm going to add my own scratches anyway, and at the next service they'll get a bunch of the wear out.

The only way to never get a scratch or ding is keep it in the safe in the original packaging.
