UK AD chancer

So we were visiting a far away town today and I saw the golden coronet and thought i'd try my luck. My Seamaster just about got me through the door. Nice chap and I just came out with it, how long for no date sub. He said he hadn't seen ANY SS for 5-6 YEARS..I repeated it back in disbelief and think he realised I wasn't buying that! He took my details and said he would pass it to the allocation team :) Not holding out much luck but you never know.

When I read stories like this I imagine the sales person playing games and testing how far they can go. Their colleague told the last person to walk in 4 years... so this person says 5 years! They all have a good chuckle out the back.

I think the sales people are as sick of the situation as anyone :)

I’m sorry, when he said 5-6 years, I may have blurted out “Liar liar pants on fire”

Name and Shame them - they are a disgrace talking to a customer and telling bare faced lies.

Hilarious. But UK and Australia, and other parts of Euro... Availability is dire. Of course, the AD has "seen" SS watches in that time, they're being facetious. But no doubt your wait, if there was a list, would be in the years!

That’s his way of politely shooing you out the door towards the Omega boutique

I truly wonder what the allocation figures are for each SS piece for a given AD in a calendar year.

SS Sub? 10
SS GMT? 10
Daytona? 5??

Are the allocations even across the board?

I prb would’ve doubled down & said- that’s not too bad, there’s hope after all, I’m hearing most AD’s haven’t seen a steel Rolex in 10 years.

Maybe only management, and the allocation team see them, the ss pieces don't make it to the sales people or displays. Most probably he was exaggerating, but I know sales agents who haven't seen an ss Daytona or a Sky Blue in all their years of work.

Well, I finally got the call and had a buddy pick up a brand new date sub couple of days ago. My only problem is bringing that SOB down from London to Houston! Might be going on sale if I can’t figure our logistics soon!

London in particular seems one of the hardest places to find ss pieces!

The “allocation team” can’t be very busy if they haven’t seen a SS model in 5 or 6 yrs!
I wonder how big the team is?

I always hear from all the ADs I know well Daytona is at most 2 in each dial. Some years it is none. Its why they are so hard to come by at an AD. What is believable is always the question but I doubt as high as 5.

Not buying any Rolex for the foreseeable future, cannot be bothered to play games at the moment, going to look at other brands, Omega, IWC as examples and top of the wish list, Panerai. I am determined to make my collection varied and not have a watch collection that looks like one is a clone of another.

So with luck I will be welcoming a new watch to the collection this autumn, hopefully a wired lug Radiomir.

I'm getting smoke blown up my rear end trying to find an OP39 with a Black Dial...a "boring entry level piece"
