Justin, the phone number he was communicating with, is that your number? Obviously the bank account number is not yours either?
I hope this gets straightened out. Quote:

Really sorry to have read all this. I’ve bought from a couple of sellers here and it’s been fine, but when I read what’s happened here, this could easily have happened to me...so whilst it’s scant consolation OP, don’t beat yourself up as I do believe that lost of us would have fallen for this.
I hope that somehow something good comes from this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Who are “you guys”? If you read carefully, only one or two people made a condescending post out of the many more who commiserated and tried to help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Why can't we retroactively apply 2FA? To continue using the forums, you must have 2FA. This would solve all problems.

or 2. have a disclaimer in your footer stating that this account is not secure or something like that. What is the timeframe a bank can recover wired funds?
Also, let your local FBI know about this if not already. Shit happens to all of us at some point in our lives. Best of luck and think positive thoughts...

1. It is not advertising if only you get the warning before advertising a watch 2. Yes, if the know all sellers are using 2fa by default i think that crime rates on this forum would plummet |

If people didn’t fall for these scams, the crime rate would also plummet. Just buy from established, well reputed sellers, do your basic phone calling, confirmation, and enjoy the watch world. In almost all of these cases, it’s generally avoidable with some basic effort, minimal due diligence, paying attention, and treating money importantly.

If the investigation of your bank doesn’t lead to a return of your funds I’d suggest to sue schaumburgia for the whole amount. He is mainly responsible for your loss, either because it was actually him who scammed you and claimed to got hacked or because he acted careless with his account security. He even admitted that he didn’t put in place important security measures.
Make a screencap of his posts and just sue the shit out of him. Sellers who act irresponsibly shouldn’t be allowed to sell watches ever again. A ban from the selling area should be a no brainer... |

Sigh...yet another situation where the scammer commands somebody to wire money over and the person happily complies knowing full well there is no guarantee of ever receiving the merchandise. It makes no sense.

First off, sorry for this happening to you OP. I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Also, someone said that the phone number that the OP posted about the seller seems to be the correct number. Any confirmation on that?

Exactly. You don’t see DavidSW, HQMilton, Jacek, or any of the boutique sellers getting hacked. Just buy from those dudes. In addition, most of the stories are people coming here after they’ve already been defrauded. Why not come to the forum before you get to Friday – – in other words wanna do some due diligence before you sent thousands of dollars to a stranger? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bank will not be helpful as the money was sent. Police need to be called and they need to subpoena bank records and things may become clearer. I know if I got the case I would be able to determine if our member here is the suspect. If he is the suspect, it will be easy, if he is not it will not be easy finding the money. |

Well in this case it would have been the hacker’s intent to take over the phone all along. Getting a SIM split allows scammer to send fake text messages posing as hacked seller. They don’t take over the phone per se, they just add their burner device as a clone in the system. Back to prevention: 1) a well-informed, cautious buyer is first step. 2) a secured seller (2FA) is best second step. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

In his response he doesn't mention his phone being ported or hijacked. If I was OP I'd be reaching out to people he has dealt with on the other forums he has frequented - if it is his bank account he transferred to, that's the last nail in the coffin for me. |

OP, I PM-ed you. Sorry this has happened to you. But all the info you have on Justin's wire, phone, address, etc are all different than those I had when I dealt (succesfully) with him a few months ago.
