I would suggest you look here: https://www.klwines.com/Products?searchText=1988

I found a 1964 Birthyear Port that I plan to serve at my 60th if I can hold out that long. I don't believe the whites age well that long. A solid Port, dessert or old red is likely your best bet.

Let us know what you end up getting!

Vintage champagne is my recommendation. 1988 was a good year, and well stored bottles from the top producers (Krug, Dom Perignon and Cristal) should be in a good place.......

Guys - can you please give me a list of your top 5 US Cabs or blends for under $75 a bottle?

I have been trying to get in US Reds but not sure where to start properly. I have tried Stags Leap Artemis, a couple of Sebastianis, Prisoner, Orin Swift Palermo, Ridge and a handful of others.

Good US cabs are not easy to get hold of in Europe - I intend to ship them direct from the US through a friend. Please give me some recommendations, These are for daily drinking and I do not intend to store them. Thank you

Stags Leap, Groth, Justin, El Coco, Lust, Louis Martin, Cuttings, Quilt

All good ones around $50 a bottle.

I myself am trying to find better cab sav deals under $50 right now with big names behind them, but those will serve you well.

Amizetta
Venge - Silencieux
Seavey - Caravina
Elizabeth Spencer
Sequoia Grove
Ladera

These would be mine - all day. And all of them are in my cellar.

All (current vintages) are very well suited to drink today - or cellar.

Thank you for the tips. I am going to give most of these a try. The Amizetta I literally cant find anywhere to buy online?!

I had two US reds last night both of which I loved: Philip Togni (which was just delicious) and one called Merus which was fruit overload but still tasty and I enjoyed it overall.

Roger: I have ordered 6 of the Venge Silencieux. I was also considering the Bone Ash Cab - they seems to be 3 vintages currently available 2014,15 and 16. Any views on which one to go for? Thank you

The Bone Ash is spectacular!!! I left it off initially based on the price point - but you won’t be disappointed.

To get and pop the cork - I’d go with 15s — haven’t opened a 16 yet — I think it will be much like the 15 vintage (approachable early, but I’d honestly let them ‘marinate’ a bit longer) but the 14s are still quite green (most 13s and 14s I have just sit in the cellar, and need more time)

Cheers!!! Look forward to hear your thoughts!!! It’s one of my favorites!

Definitely Roger. Have now ordered. Will revert with feedback in due course. Thank you for the tips. I just need to find the Amizetta which is proving impossible.

Going out to a friends for dinner tonight. Taking a bottle of 2006 Pingus (my last one) and a bottle of its little brother Flor de Pingus. If you like Riberas both are lovely with the first being delicious but the second better value.

awesome!! Enjoy that one!!! Will definitely have to have a look at those.

You might try some of the auction sites too - Amizetta is a small boutique style winery - but they won’t disappoint!!

Cheers!!!

Had this tonight with some beef kabobs off the grill. Sommelier suggested a 2010 Romeo at Del Friscos in Orlando back in December and we really enjoyed it, so picked this up from K&L.

Enjoyable, but the wine's a bit sweet and concentrated, almost a bit syrupy. Glad we bought it and gave it a try, but not sure we'd buy again (though I am curious what it's like a bit younger). We have a 2012 Romeo on the way to try as well -- love K&L for selection and older vintages!

Any of you Cali folks familiar with this producer? Any suggestions on drinking window?

Why is it that the last bottle of the case is always the best. Because it has had a bit more time, stupid.
As usual for me, the last one was excellent. I DID give it plenty of time to breathe and it was lovely. Drank the whole bottle and hence a heavy head this morning, but what the hell, life's short.

Being a Wagner Cab, I was hoping for a budget Caymus. It was not.

Wife and I had a glass as soon as we opened the bottle. Good initially on the palate, but the finish was flat. We decanted the other half of the bottle and drank it an hour or so later. Much better. For $30, I’d buy again.

The initial nose makes you think it’s Caymus — and it has that Wagner family vibe to it but — WAAAY too much secondary sugar. Drinks a lot like Belle Glos.

I bought a case when it was initially released - thought it would be good table wine - for guests. Ended up giving it away.

Just my .02

Beautiful lineup right there my friend. Can’t go wrong with Hundred Acre...and of course the Quintessa is a very nice wine too.

And agree Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there. We wouldn’t be a family without them!
