Should I buy a Rolex for my seven year old?

Yeah, um, newbie here. My youngest son turned seven two weeks ago. He can't tell time and says dinner when he means breakfast and vice versa. He really has no concept of time (i.e. his next birthday is in 'two months'). Anyhow, I'm off topic a bit.

So my question - should I buy him a TT Sub or a slightly used Daytona? I'm thinking this may help facilitate his ability to tell time with something other than the microwave oven. No jokes please. And, no, I'm not buying him anything with diamonds. No sharp angles for this kid. Get serious already.

Your feedback is much appreciated.

slightly used daytona.....more stuff to play with...he'll learn more than just telling time.....perhaps the white dial, with black sub dials & Arabic numerals.
On a strap, more comfy for a growing boy.

Are you kidding mate? A G-shock would tell time just as well as a rolex on a 7 year olds wrist.

Sounds good. In your opinion, would a Daytona look good on NATO? That would provide some great adjustability for his 2 1/2" wrists.

That simply would not do, my man. What would the neighbors think?

A 14060 non COSC should do well for him, nice and clean. NATO strap should fit well

Non COSC, you say? Now that could possibly be less accurate in extreme conditions I believe. Lets say we jet down South on holiday, wouldn't the extreme temperature change put his time keeping accuracy at a disadvantage? Sorry to ask, but I'm new to this forum.

Same answer, only if he or she graduates from Uni at the age of 7.

Can I suggest WG instead of TT seeing kids are kids he will likely get teased if seen wearing anything with YG. WG is still gold but more stealthy.

I'm sorry, Des, but I would prefer you stay on topic. TT or Daytona? Sorry to be blunt. Did I say I'm new to this forum?

Hello Craig......no NATO, too much hassel to strap on & tuck the ends in, etc.
I'm thinking WG, white dial, black subdials, arabic #'s, nice thick black croc strap & w/
the deployant, you can adjust it as he grows......his friends will think a woven nylon strap on a daytona is crass.......sub, si: daytona, no.

Good point good point. I would definitely get a him an COSC rolex. A Roman Datejust maybe? You know, so that he'll get a head start with learning Roman numbers.

No, you shouldn't get him a Rolex. Proper age for that was 3. Patek only IMHO.

Roman numerals? Yes. Yes, I like that. He has been able to count to 100 for several months now and, perhaps, we could expand his numerical world a bit. So when he comes out of the bedroom and I'm watching TV late a night, I can say 'please go to bed son, it's X-o'clock.'

Well, I don't know about that. Kids his age HATE Datejusts. They're more into sport models and shiny ceramics. You gotta stay hip with these kids or they'll lose all respect for you.

Oh another thing, stay away from those inverted 6 dials, they seem to confuse adults (like me) sometimes....

Yes, get it for him ... but don't give it to him just yet. Wait for the proper occasion and in the meantime teach him how to tell time. Let him learn all about Rolex, it's history, it's quality, and everything about the company and the brand. Hopefully he will develop a genuine appreciate for it then give it to him to mark a crowning achievement. The TT Sub (C, Blue Face) would be an awesome gift.

May I suggest a few vocabulary lessons instead, since he's 7 and can't even differentiate between meals.

Just to clarify - are you referring to the IV vs. VI conundrum? If so, a custom dial could address the issue. And for all of you purists out there, I know it would be a non-Rolex part, but sometimes allowances must be made.
