The Eames is my favourite piece of furniture and happened to be where I spend most of my time on TRF

I'm jealous because I'm afraid to sit in mine, lol! I look at it, like it's art. It's rosewood, first year of production (c.1956-7) and was given by Charles Eames to another furniture designer. I had an amazing furniture guy restore and re-stain the rosewood, and I also had the leather restored (but not reupholstered, and the original down-filled pillow inserts are still inside the cushions).

With the old chairs, the shock mounts on the arms sometimes suddenly detach, which causes the wood to split. It's a known bug. That's why you'll sometimes see old Eames chairs with screws going through the wood under the arms -- it's a not-so-pretty, half-a**ed repair. The guy who restored mine said the shock mounts seemed pretty robust and recommended against replacing them preventatively.
