Two-tone GMT versatility. Aesthetic mods - let's see what you have.

As I have matured in the watch collecting hobby the past 25 to 30 years, my focus has changed somewhat the past few years. While I still prefer nice original watches, I've grown found of minor, non original additions to some models.

While before, I would describe myself as a purist, my tastes have changed somewhat now to make room for aesthetic modifications to particular models that have been enhanced with non original genuine parts. A perfect example of this would be what you are seeing lately with the various GMT two-tone models and some of the stainless steel models.

Inserts and bezels are being swapped and/or replaced on the two-tones where you find black dial models with the golden brown inserts, steel bezels and even full stainless steel bracelets.

Another interesting change-up has been the vintage stainless steel GMTs found wearing brown inserts from the solid gold GMTs. These inserts are striking handsome on some of these watches, especially ones with a nice yellow patina. I've even seen a two-tone GMT recently with a Pepsi insert which the owner loved.

So, whether you have some subtle or minor modifications to your Rolex, let's see what you have and what you have done! Inquiring minds want to know.

Dear Springer, if I had only a fraction of the beautiful pristine GMTs you have I too would allow myself some leeway!

Congrats and thank you for enriching us when sharing your knowledge on this forum.

Wow.

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate the thought. Regarding my photo with the two GMTs, the one with the black dial went to a close friend who lives here in the metroplex. After he saw my root beer, he also wanted a brown or golden brown insert for his watch. He ditched the black insert and went with the one depicted in the photo. I must say that after the change-out, I'd have to say he was right, it looked much better with the golden brown insert.

Looks great JP!
I used to wear my black dial 16753 with a faded root beer insert.
I wish I still had it.

This is really just playing dress up with straps but it's fun. :) The Oolongapo bracelet comes closest to an actual change but still just a bracelet.

I like the look of your friends brown insert and agree some patina makes that work.

EEK!

I love two toned GMT's. A Root Beer GMT on Jubilee is a big favourite of mine

Richard, that is one sweet Oolongapo bracelet. The two-tone versions are very rare and rarely seen.

Mine originally came on a jubilee bracelet. I switched to a nato and now enjoy wearing it even more! Would luv to get a brown insert for it some day.
