Night Owl or Early Bird?
Which are you?
Early Bird? Night Owl? It seems to me that there is a contest afoot as to who can get up the earliest these days... Ex Navy Seal or Spec Ops with the "don't sleep past 4am or you're a deadbeat" mantra... CEO's up no later than 3am on the dot....getting a start on the day earlier than anyone else in the company... It seems the older one gets, the bigger badge of honor it is to get up earlier and earlier. Maybe because dinner @ 3pm is cheaper? But then others are up late at night and don't get up until 10am or later...and they say that is the secret to their success... No right or wrong answer to this as everybody has their own way.. I for one try my best not to schedule anything before 10am. To me, the morning is a rat race of people all running around to get something done before work or trying to get to work / school. No thanks on all that. It's chaos! What say you |

I’m up early because my dogs wake me up to attack coyotes.
It’s not a choice. |

Although not confirmed, my wife has always made a point of telling me that people that stay up late are generally smarter. She, of course, is a night owl.
Me, I fall asleep watching tv after 10pm but can’t sleep past 7 so I’m really not either. Is there a term for that besides boring? |

Before I retired I slept soundly from 10.pm to 6.30am.
Post retirement I wake about 4.00am and then doze fitfully until about 7.00am. Sleep patterns change radically as you get older. Possibly less demands on the brain affect how well you sleep. I speak with many older folks who have the same experience.

Definitely early bird. Awake at 5am every day. My body clock seems to be as accurate and finely tuned as my submariner!

Having worked nights or odd shifts for the better part of the last quarter century, I am firmly and unabashedly a night owl.

During the working week - alarm off at 5.50
Weekends 7am although usually up earlier In the summer months I always think it’s a waste when the sun is shining early morning to stay in bed. In the winter it can be harder at weekends to get up with rain battering the windows/ cold etc |

Early bird here. In bed by 9:30pm/fall asleep by 10:00pm and wake up by 4-5:00am range, no alarm needed. This is weekdays and most weekends.

in my 60s worked all shifts for 35 years now 8p to 3a u can't sleep longer wish i could but true older you get less sleep you get little known theory caveman times when dark a tribe would just lay down to sleep just safer than walking in the dark theory goes the young would sleep longer and deeper sleep the elders slept in a lighter sleep and woke up earlier this keept the tribe or family unit safer the elders sleep pattern was for safety from threats at night

Night person for 35 years. My best work is at night and not uncommon to go at least 24 hours straight with what I do. My international and cross country flights are 90% midnight flights to wherever I have to go. I Land and start in on what I need to do. Fits perfect. Less traffic, less people and can work easily on aircraft.
Unless on vacation, that’s a different I like to get up early and explore

I wake up without alarm at 4am every day. In bed between 10-11 pm. I love being up early. Not to get anything done, just love the quiet and stillness of the city at that time.

Up at 5 am every day since I was 12 and going chores on the farm.
Force of habit I guess, but I love the morning, the sun rise, the quiet. I love getting in my workout, feeling fully charged for the day by 6:30. Granted by 10am my day feels like it’s half over now that I’m older By 10pm I’m usually in bed. One thing I’ll mention, is that my wife also has a similar body clock to mine, and I’ve always believed that’s important to a healthy marriage ... I could wrong, but it works well for us. |

Out of bed by 5:00 am although am usually stirring around 4:00 am.
The downside is that I’m asleep no later than 9:30 pm. So, early bird it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would like to say it was the military that made me an early riser, but I remember not being able to sleep in even as a teenager. I am always up anywhere from 4:30 to 5:30 and off to the races.
I guess i just like getting my routine done and feeling accomplished by 6, and then the rest of the day to focus, plan, and execute. |

As the Earth tilts on its axis we enter forced desynchrony with our diurnal rhythms...and then you have hump day stressors...because your AD won’t have the watch you want this coming Saturday.
What’s that got to do with night owls and early birds? Well, it can keep you up at night... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Grew up in an early rising home.
As a young adult, was out past midnight much more often than not. These days, asleep around 10 and up around 5.

Up at 4:00 am 7 days a week. An old USMC habit that I’ve never shaken.

Up at 5 every morning no matter what time I go to sleep. Get more done before all the chaos starts when the masses wake up.

Assuming the kids let me sleep in I'm up at 5am and in the office by 6:30am. Love Ben Franklin's quote "early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise".
I find when I force myself to bed by 10pm and up by 5am I feel much better, I'm more motivated, have better workouts, eat healthier, etc. If I stay up late and sleep in I feel lethargic. |

Up at 4am daily but out of gas usually by 9pm.
I joke about the time I wake up now which used to be when I'd be getting home from the bar. |
