That is horrendous! I have never let one of my watches ever go more than a week without a good Dawn, warm water and soft brush clean.
That is going to take a lot of work to loosen all that "tar".

That's why you should never take it off per se and SHOWER with it. Sure the occasonal cleaning is in order as well, yet showering greatly helps.

I’ve been told that if you wear a watch in the shower the steam and detergent will eventually degrade the seals and it will no longer be waterproof.

I use the same degreaser that I use on my mountain bike with a soft toothbrush then rinse under the tap with clean water. I also do the same with the wife.
