I always loved the aperture display of the 5205. The Art-deco design, complexity of the concave bezel and sculpted lugs made it contemporary amongst Pateks. The original grey/silver was nice, and the RG edition was lovely too. But when Patek released the midnight blue sundial 5205G-013 at Baselworld 2018, I was in love!

Thanks to my AD, they secured me one of a small handful to hit UK shores. The quality of finishing is superb, the size just right, and it seems to easily transition between smart casual and formal. For casual, I still have all the various Rolex sport watches, so I am not concerned about it's wearability with jeans - although the 5205G easily pulls that off too. I had it fitted with a matching deployant as it just seemed appropriate.

The 5205G-013, My First Patek(tm)

This is SUCH a nice watch.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. After years of Rollies, the quality of finishing of the Patek is remarkable. The blue gradient to black is dark - a midnight blue to black. The subtlety of the colour is alluring - it makes you want to find it, search out for the best angle to view, and it draws you in with the complexities of the concave bezel and hollowed lugs. The variety of curves makes it a very difficult watch to photograph - it is not surprising that Patek choose to instead show a video of the watch on their website instead of just static photos.

I had the chance to snap a few photos in the dull and overcast English weather today... not the best snaps, but hopefully it gives a better idea of just how beautiful the 5205G is. Sorry for the dust specs!

Nice photos, and great purchase.
I was looking at this ref as my first PP and I have tried this on 3 different times but my wrist doesn’t hold it well, hence went on with 5146G.

I got mine not long ago. Still not able to feel out that blue. It looks black 99% of the time except when the sun is out and the light is really good.

Congrats on it. This is definitely not an entry-level watch you got ;-) Feeling the deployant clasp, but after paying full price for my watch I don't know how I justify another 2.5K GBP on top of it.
