Push pins on newer Submersibles

I just got a 979 and Iím a little dumbfounded by the type of push pins Panerai has put on these watches. They have no edges and are literally just a cylinder with the smooth push pins. One, the only way to remove them is by pushing through the hole on the lug, which does not allow you to prevent any damages to the rear of the lug/inside the lug as the pin is coming out. Two, since the freaking thing is so thick, it is not compatible with other Panerai straps that already have a tube in them. WTFÖ

Am I the only one confused here?
