Panerai Winding
Can you over wind a Panerai watch? I have heard that the Rolex models take 60 winds for a full charge and cannot really be over wound. How many winds to fully charge a Panerai and is it possible to over wind one?
Considering the PAM111. Thank you. |

Panerai watches have a range of automatic and manual movements.
My manual 231 winds until the crown stops. Automatics have slipper mainsprings so they can't be overwound. Pams have different power reserve and that changes the numbers of turns required. Did you have a Pam model in mind?

The 111 has the ETA 6497 - same manual movement as my 231.
312 has a Panerai 9000 in house automatic movement. The 320 is a Panerai in house 9001 automatic GMT movement. So the 111 would be wound until the crown stops. The other two can't be overwound and have 3 day PR's. The 320 has a 'second hand reset to 12' when the movement is hacked. The Pam experts will be along soon.

You can't overwind a manual Panerai.
Spin the crown until it stops and your good. |

Reviving this topic back to life.
I recently acquired the 190 and as I'm winding it the crown don't seem to have a stop mechanism build in.i hope I am not doing any serious damage if I keep going. I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this matter. Thanks. |

Not that I would but I assume you could actually force the crown to rotate beyond the threshold of resistance offered by the main spring and snap it...so I think you could overwind a manual. An automatic can't be overwound (or wearing one would be ruin it).
