If you want a SS Daytona, you pay MSRP. That's pretty much the way it is with that model in particular. I've only seen a couple in the display cases for sale (bought one myself 3+ years ago), and each one was for sale at no discount. Most of them are held in the safe of the AD, and kept for specific customers.

They're not as rare as they used to be, but they're still on the short list for several collectors, and that keeps the price up.

It's still hard to find a good used SS Daytona for less than MSRP.

YES!

Perhaps you should buy some and send them to Hong Kong! I am going to get one this weekend at inflated price The Chinese tourists are snapping everything up regardless of price!

There is no chance to get a brand new SS Daytona here at the ADs, let alone at MSRP, unless you are a close personal friend of the AD owner. I must have talked to dozens of ADs around here and none of them will even take names. Completely hopeless, so can only buy one at the gray market at inflated prices...

No. I had the chance to do that a few months ago at an AD and passed. The Daytona is a great watch and I know they are generally snapped up pretty quickly at MSRP, but still - over $10k for a steel watch was too much for me.

Plus this was a black dial and I could barely read the time on the dial.

No, the steel Daytona doesn't do anything for me, I'm afraid. If I had the money to spend on one, I would look at either the TT or 18ct White Gold models

Yep, I did! But, it was the white dial SS and they made me a deal on a bracelet for my wife that did effect an overall discount. No regrets!

They're available at discount, so why would you pay full pop?

I probably would if I was holding it and trying it on at the AD and got shot down with my negotiations, but I really want one.

I also had a watch collector that I respect once tell me that only a fool pays retail. Obviously, that doesn't fit every situation, but he's adamant about it.

I can be seen as a fool by certain people for spending 10 grand on watches, but I'm okay with that! Everyone needs a hobby!

I was given that opportunity when the SS Daytona was both rare and frequently "scalped" for lack of a better term.

Had I had the money available at the time, I would have surely taken the opportunity.

I was amazed at the time that anyone was selling it at retail, much less that it was being offered to me.

I might have gotten a small discount, if I'd had the cash, but really even without one, I thought it was a hell of a deal.

I don't mind paying retail for my Rolex watches.

No. I am not looking for one anyway. I am not really a chrono guy. Give me a three or four hand movement and I am a happy camper.

Nope. Too small on the wrist, for me, and I need the date function.

I do, however, like the aesthetics of the TT models (still wouldn't buy one, however)
