Sydney GTG Friday January 23rd 2015

Thought I'd put this one out there and see if we have any takers!?!

I know it's a few day before Australia day, so certainly understand it's a busy time of year with school holidays etc.
Unfortunately my Sydney time is limited once again, and the date above is the really only time I can attend a night out with my online friends and family....

Certainly open as always as to the venue, only requisite is CBD area. All dining taste are welcomed, and suggestions needed. (as I'm not local, someone to make the booking when decided would be appreciated).

Looking forward to seeing old friends, and new should some attend!!

Let's a get a time and place hatched out, and hope many of you can attend...

Excellent. Looks like a good turnout indeed!

I guess a few locations should now be bounced around, and a kickoff of 6:30/7pm ??

All varieties and styles of cuisine are fine with the wife and I, so happily open to suggestions...

Cheers.

I'll throw a suggestion... not quite CBD, but just around the corner in Pyrmont is Flying Fish.

http://flyingfish.com.au/

Flying Fish is arguably the best seafood in Sydney, though maybe a little pricey.

For JohnBeth, they also have a Wagyu rib-eye for you. At 1.2kg (that's about 36 ounces, or 2lb 10 ounces) and meant to be shared between 2 people, @ $165 for a steak it's not cheap, but I think you could manage it ).

PS. they give it a sprinkle of fairy dust (truffle), SO EXTRA TASTY... MMMMMMM, STEAK

I've shrunk a little. There is no way in would do that size steak for now. I know I have in the past!

John,

I suggested flying fish as well in the now defunct thread, I ate there a few weeks back and it was awesome. They also have a private dining room called the wine room which as it suggests is lined with bottles of wine (fits 30 people). Their is an open area we can have a drink outside as well. While it may be 200m from my door, sadly I cant walk on water, so will come by cab, Anders (Puffy) can certainly walk from his place in Pyrmont. Peter may be even able to come by boat and pull up out the front, I can investigate, there is a marina attached.

Menu is good be it steak or seafood. Based on my dinner it is about $150 a head, which is reasonable.

I love it sitting on the couch commenting on Flying Fish as the Sun Princess left port, so took a picture, Peter you can see the marina or part of it in picture, flying fish sits on the end of the wharf.

150 a head reasonable?
I would say at that the price, that is a little excessive for the average person.

John,

Not fussed on venue, FYI when I indicated $150 a head that included 2 expensive bottles of wine (between 5 of us), so food more $110 a head (3 courses). Happy to go to the steakhouse referenced was not around for that GTG, but I know everyone raves about it. Just good to catch up.

No worries. I'm OK with the venue suggested.

G'day all
It'd be great to finally meet you Rob and I should be all set for this date!
Craig, great recommendation and Flying Fish is indeed my local for fish 'n chips, well almost - the food is most definitely worth the slight premium over eg Occidental (where 5 of us managed to spend 750 bucks on oysters (average syd rock oysters), steak and wine last week and it didnt include the 5/6 rounds of ale cleansers we had post steak)
Merry Christmas to everyone!

OK why don't I investigate then on whether we can get the wine room. I am sure it is capped at 30 which based on previous GTG we should get close to, may even need people on a wait list. Our guests of honour will be first in of course. Anders you should try and bring your wife along. Happy to bring along some bottles of wine to keep the cost down....

Sounds good Craig and i will find out if the wife is in town or away on business.

There's also Meat and Wine Co (Circ Quay) which i think has Sydney's best steak.
Aria, Rockpool + a few other places i dont want to remember are full of wankers.

Sokyo in the star is meant to be great but I've not been, yet.

Also chophouse comes recommended.

I will have a crack tomorrow at Flying Fish, specifically for the wine room, it is a great private room if that is not on will look at other options.

Good stuff! Thanks mate.
Anders mentioned some good spots too but they're a bit more touristy. Now that I'm officially a citizen I must keep up appearances
