Ref. 4749/1A

Looks like Patek finally surrendered to steel with this regular production steel AC. Well done to them, particularly on launching a 38mm, and look forward to coughing up 3x retail to get this.

Edit: reference is 4947/1A

This isn't the first steel AC. The 5960A was in Steel with the bracelet for a couple years.

This one won't trade above retail if the 5960 didn't get that much love. It's also a more traditional looking AC so I doubt it would get that much hype.

Agreed, this will have at most 6-9 months wait time. We will see if people will like it more than 5960, I found the main problem with the original reference was too much polished surfaces.

This will be the new nautilus, especially that steel nautilus is gone
the 5960 on steel with steel bracelet was a good watch (with exception to the clasp) but it was victim to being launched at a time where everyone just wanted 5711
now this new ref and the other steel (weekly calendar) will be new collectables

Is this a ladies watch or not? 4749 is a reference line for ladies watches, typically, but this one appears to be more unisex to me.

Am I the only one?

Sure doesn’t look like a ladies watch to me. Can’t wait to try one on.

Yeah, right? It looks like it'd be at home on a male wrist, as well.

This reference, along with the new 6119 and the ladies blue Calatrava are already available for trying on at the AD today. Cheers.

The PC is later this week or next week.

Nah, I don't think people wanting Nautilus will transition to this one. Nautilus, RO, and all the other watches benefit from being a versatile, comfortable sport watches. I don't think it's the same public as for the AC.

Yeah this is not a successor, it really needed a cooler/original bracelet to have a chance at taking some of that money, the new funky tartan dial might get some traction with the Scots tho.

Agree, love the watch but that bracelet will have to go, way too much bling for me.

I think they make 4947/1A-001 SS with full bracelet for Men and

4947G-010 WG & 4947R-001 RG with Diamonds for Women but seems like the size might be too big for Women.

well think about it, this AC steel bracelet watch is almost at the same price point as 5712, so i'm guessing people will jump on the waiting list of it (just like people jumped on the 5212 weekly calendar).
time will tell, i'm only guessing

I don't expect the new SS AC to sell nearly as well as the 5212. The 5212 is an innovative and quirky watch that is quite sporty for a Patek strap watch. In contrast the new SS AC is quite lame and not very handsome either. I think this one will do worse than 5960/1A.

True enough. At least the 5960 had a chronograph function to make it interesting.
Patek seems desperate to sell more ACs, to the point where they are willing to make one in SS on a bracelet. It still won't work.

Good point but I’d argue that it is there only because they probably don’t have the functionality to put it in two categories at the same time...

Anyway, lines are pretty blurred between what’s a mens and what’s a ladies watch these days so all that matters really is whether the person likes the watch on his or hers wrist or not.

There goes the unisex idea.

I prefer how AP handles the new 38MM RO Chrono. It's portrayed as unisex.

What were your impressions live "in the metal"?
The notion of a round case, 38mm diameter steel watch....being marketed as a "ladies" watch seems a little odd to me...

I know a gentlemen who has this watch and it looks amazing on him. For me, as I am a lot bigger than this gentlemen, this watch is a little on the smaller side if I would want to wear it as a sporty metal watch but would work perfectly well if I would use it as a more dressier watch.

Italian former soccer player and fashion icon Andrea Pirlo has one as well and it also looks amazing on his wrist IMHO. Just do a google search on his name and “Patek” and it will come up.
