Icon20 Got the call for 5167R-001 Seeking pricing advice

Hey guys,

I got the call from my AD. This is my grail watch. I actually asked for it not so long ago.

https://watchcharts.com/watch/22558-...5167r/overview

My AD says the price is 56.000 USD, I have never bought a Patek before. I wanted to ask you guys if it is the right MSRP or not.

I googled and it says the MSRP is about $43,760 but where I live they usually add 19% VAT.

Also, do you think I have a chance of asking for disccount?

Best regards!

If it’s your grail watch and you can afford it, go ahead buy it. Chances are slim to get a discount. Doesn’t hurt to ask. They probably give you some freebies, travel case, tie or wallet. Congrats!

MSRP is 43,760, add in 19% and you are 52,074. So I have no clue where he is coming up with 56K but whatever, just go get it.

This. Although the added 4k is weird. I didn't think a mark up was customary at an AD.

Also, congrats!

Indeed, that is why I'm asking. Sucks to live in South America I guess.

it's still one of the hottest watches on the planet - yes sounds like AD is trying to make an extra buck but you are not going to get it cheaper anywhere

BUY IT NOW :)

Is retail the same for each country and just translated into local currency? I thought countries had individual retail pricing (close but not exact). So couldn't it be that your AD is using local retail price but converting it to USD?

For example, I looked up the retail for this watch in the US and it was not the same as the retail in the UK when I simply adjust for currency. Would have been cheaper for me to buy it in the UK? Lol, like an AD would have one to sell to me.

What is the local currency? On Patek's website, it would detect where you are and provide the local price. (I don't think Chile uses USD?)

I have yet to hear an AD mark up from SRP though. But stranger things have happened and if Patek finds out, I am sure it would not be too happy.

As others have said, it is extremely rare to be offered a 5167R as a first piece of Patek. I guess you must have been a very good customer for other items.

And the watch chart thing is really meaningless, you should ignore it and enjoy the watch as it is. Treat it as most other consumables that as soon as you pay and walk out of the door, it is already 50% off.

Patek AD uses USD for pricing, and transforms that to Chilean Peso when you buy.

I bought 2 Rolexes and 1 Omega before getting offered the Patek. I asked for an Aquanaut about 3 months ago.

Maybe in Chile there is not so many people that will spend 56.000 USD on a watch.

Ask for a discount, and if they don't give it to you, tell them you're not interested.

then let me know which store that is. thanks.

Two Rolex and one Omega for an Aquanauts with only a three month wait is really unheard of for the past year. So either you are right that no one is ready to spend $50k in Chile or the watch market have indeed gone South really fast.

I have a friend who was just been told he needs to buy $100k+ of useless jewelry for a shot at a sports Patek like an Aquanaut.

The price sounds way too high if you´re buying at list price from an AD. For example, the current MSRP including 19% VAT in Germany is 38,830 EUR.

It sounds like par for the course in South America. Slightly elevated price but better availability. I wouldn’t let it deter you.

You better get it now before it's too late. It's a little more than MSRP + tax but it's still a lot cheaper than secondary market price.

Maybe you’re being hit by Chile’s additional 15% luxury tax on imported gold products?

Pre-tax price in MX is closer to $41k USD. $41k * 1.15 (import tax) * 1.19 (Chilean IVA) and you’re at $56k. Just a guess!

That would be a deal since dollar is at parity with euro.

You are correct! I went to the AD today to pay part of the watch so it is now "reserved". I asked about the pricing issue, they said it was 19% VAT + 15% gold tax.

I asked for disccount, they told me I will get some "gifts".

All of you guys were spot on, I will probably have the watch on my wrist during next week.

I will post pics!

How times have changed and now we have threads about discounts on Patek Sports again! Anyway, I digress, congrats OP!

(You should just check the Patek Website for MSRP).

Not every market’s pricing is on the Patek site, Chile included.

Congratulations on your new Patek. South American Patek ADs are a bit different from North American or European ADs. Brazil has some luxury tax on Pateks and Argentina has some weird currency exchange rate similar to what is described for Chile.

At the end of the day, if it is your dream watch, enjoy in good health
