Opinions on Black Bay Authenticity
I purchased this watch in 2016 pre-owned but at the time in Immaculate shape and really liked it but had an opportunity to get something else that I liked better so I sold it shortly after owning it. (It was sized at my local Rolex/Tudor AD and never questioned.) I had no reason to doubt it’s authenticity but now several years later it had been called to question. In an effort to assist the new owner, I reached out to the place I bought it and the company I bought it from stands by their initial assessment that it was authentic and says way too much time has passed even if it wasn’t to claim a refund. So I’m looking for others opinions on this.
The pictures are from recently and not years ago when I owned it. |

Does the second hand extend beyond the circle on the dial?

No good, IMO.
That is a "standard" Eta, and not an early Tudor-modified/decorated Eta. Dial has issues as well. |

Are you sure it’s the same watch you sold? Maybe the buyer is scamming you?

The movement and case quality is not convincing.

Standard Etachron-style regulator instead of Tudor's revised Triovis regulator. Not good. It is possible that the buyer is trying to return a fake. Store it was bought from is correct to not want to touch this years after the original sale. I just learnt this and am not a Tudor expert but appreciate the knowledge. Dunno what to suggest..

Exactly my thoughts. How do you know that it’s the same watch?

I would not get too deep into it with the new owner. I would tell him that the watch you sold him was real, which you believe, and while you understand any questions there has been a long time lapse. This screams scam to me and the next thing he will want is money back or threaten legal action. I would be polite but firm and tell him that this is the end of your conversations.

Here is a photo of one of my Tudors with the correct movement you can clearly point out differences.

As others have mentioned, how do you know the owner now isn’t trying it on?
One thing I would say though, obviously he paid the market rate for the watch so is unlikely to be dabbling with fake watches? And the fact it’s years later and the same person, I really can’t see someone coming back to an old owner to scam them? I mean it would fall flat on its face as a scam very quickly if the serial nos didn’t match etc. *If* it was the same fake when you had it, the AD who resized the bracelet probably wouldn’t have a clue to be honest, so I wouldn’t count on that as verification of authenticity. I’m more inclined to think the dealer who sold it to you missed it was fake rather than someone who paid a lot for a watch and has had it years suddenly deciding to scam the previous owner. The key surely is the serial number and paperwork etc. Surely the dealer would still have this info in their files. If it all matches then they probably sold you a fake. |

The pics are of a fake.
Unwinding the story is the issue. There was another one of these with a questionable member from I believe Russia. Unsure if that thread was deleted or what but this appears to be a common issue with Tudors as the fakes are very well done. Better than Rolex ones to the untrained. |

OP, sorry you have to go through this but the onus is not on you here.
Buyer has the responsibility of verifying the watch when he purchased it and return if not satisfied. After so much time passed by anything could have happened to your watch. It might have been swapped by someone the buyer came into contact with or something else. I would wish him best of luck and close this case (no pun intended). Fake Tudors are - as mentioned here above - plenty to be found.
