What is going on with the green dial Day-Date

Hello

I have always dreamed of owning a white gold olive dial day date.

I remember a few years ago when they were 26k used and 30k new on DSW.

Today I noticed the WG day date olive dial is 58K on DSW.

Would some one please tell me what I do not know? Why has the price spiked, I worry I will never get to buy this watch at retail.

The same that has happened with all Rolex’s. Madness across the board

WG anniversary dial DD is a heck of a lot cheaper than the RG even at 58-59k

Craziness. People didn't want them a few years back, and now they're willing to triple the cost.

Hype followed by more hype and today hype sells watches, as many buy the hype to wear it. Plus the more hype the more sellers can charge silly money for them to those willing to pay..

The RG is getting closer to the YG green Daytona.
It made a jump of 30K in a couple of months.

I have no idea who is buying at this prices, but it is nuts.

Nobody is buying it. It’s just hype and speculation and sellers having a little fun with their private WhatsApp group where they collude to pump up
Prices.

I think your right.

I'm pretty close with a gray dealer and all these prices are pumped up between dealers. He's like they all just raise prices on each other sometimes going between the same dealers multiple times the same watch.

They may sell 1 or 2 to the end customer but its usually all dealer to dealer sales each pumping up the price. LOL

i am guessing just the watch dealers pushing up the price between each other, but no one is actually buying any watches at that price.

Ran into a guy I know at a holiday watch event who showed me his new Aquanaut he just bought from a grey. Some people are actually buying these things at the crazy prices.

Actually you need to be careful. When a dealer removes the listing many times its not sold. They are just holding it longer because they think its going higher or dealer chat speculation.

I know dealers that do this ALL the time. Yes sometimes its a legit sale but many times its not. I personally know a dealer hoarding all Rose Gold DD40s. He's got like 20+ of them all dials. He betting that all the RG DD40s are going to skyrocket this holiday season and if they dont he'll liquidate.

Fake news. Have you audited the bill of sales and bank statements? Otherwise it’s all in your head man.

Yes the same has happened to Lamborghini whips. The asking price has gone up.

Wait it out until it goes back down. However there is no telling when that will occur.

Albeit an awesome configuration, (I really do think that the green dial and the rose gold complement each other very well) I am sure there are some buying it. With the advertising that this got with celebrities, people want to have one because it is the "status" thing. Shame that I remember when these were selling for a little over 30K.

The FOMO is real! If you're an enthusiast and really want the piece, it's a different story. I personally wouldn't play but don't blame those who do. But if you're getting it as an investment piece... Well... Your money, do your thing!

This phenomenon isn't specific to Rolex. Patek shelves are just as empty and people are lining up in front of Rolex and Chanel before the stores open in hopes of securing an item. In Asia, usually flippers, camp out to increase their chances.

In an effort to make items available to a larger audience, Rolex and Chanel, in Korea, have implemented a one item per buyer a year system. They make sure the buyer has a valid government issued ID and credit card. Names and faces have to match. Once the item is purchased, they enter you in a system which disqualifies you from making an additional purchase for a year.

Pay the gray price or hope the market levels out. No wrong answer here! Do what's best for you and your wallet!

I was actually thinking about trying to get one of these for my 50th next year. I'll probably go talk to my AD and ask about it there, they've been really good to me over the years with getting all of my watches over the years. I would never pay these sort of crazy prices though, for me it's either MSRP at an AD or just finding something else to do with my money. Even at MSRP it's a lot and I'm not sure I want to spend that on just one watch.

Darling, I live in the most expensive street of the most expensive city of the world and it’s fair to say my monthly social taxes are your monthly income. I can fathom spending whatever I please. If you like helping random people have a middle man luscious lifestyle, it’s your own prerogative.

Don’t go calling people delusional because your sample size is n=1, and you have absolutely no ground besides the hype you try to create here.
