Crazy 24 hours with a most special incoming (turning an OP 41 into...)

I had this crazy idea the other day...I thought to myself, "Self, I wonder what the market rate for the turquoise OP 41 is..." I had a number in my head that I thought was outlandish for a slightly used watch, but hey, Hype and FOMO can be a wonderful thing if used to your advantage.

Now don't get me wrong, I "liked" the OP 41, it's much better in person than pics, but I didn't "love" it, and I'm starting to sour on the Rolex brand slightly. They make a fantastic watch, but the whole purchasing experience is getting out of hand...when you buy something, it should be a win win situation (the AD makes money, you get something you love), not you beg and plead for them to sell you something, then you feel special after getting treated like garbage for months in the effort to score something.

So, that number was hit when I inquired how much I could get, and packaging an El Primero that I also liked but didn't love (lugs were just a bit too long for my taste), I was able to turn a base model yet hyped Rolex and an EP I bought slightly pre-loved at an incredible discount into this still stickered 18 karat dreamboat plus $990 to the good side!

Still slightly in shock that this happened - and to boot, my wife very randomly found our dream house which we agreed to purchase 2 weeks ago, listed our current house yesterday morning, and had it sold by 7:45 pm last night! I like to tie my watches to memories, and this one will undoubtedly be one of the most special!

Crazy, too, how I can buy a watch at 3:30 yesterday and have it at 9:45 this morning. Going grey might be my new black!

I'm in love, so pardon the incessant posting of watch porn! I've only almost crashed the truck twice today staring at the dial. This thing is good!!!

It's true what they say about PM watches! I might have been ruined for the future...

Forgot to mention...I've always wanted the blue AT from the Bond connection and memories with my Dad...this one just makes a little better!

Ha, no...I’ve been polyamorous with my watches to date, but this might be the one.

Much congrats.... I've seen that same exact watch at the OB and loved it. Pictures don't do it justice, looks 100X better in the flesh. Might just have to sell a few to get one as well.

Great move. I think this model is such a sweet mix of classy and cool. Something also about looking down and seeing gold feels special. Congrats. Wear in good health.

Ain't this the truth! I got into Rolex because like many of us I "always wanted a Rolex." But once you get jerked around by AD's enough times you start to discover other great brands out there. Since I discovered Omega I haven't had much interest on Rolex anymore. Great watches, incredible build quality and design, amazing accurate movements, and you can actually go and try them on before buying one. Rolex can keep their games. I'm not playing along anymore. Might be picking one of these AT's up in the future. Hell of a watch and a terrific price to boot. Way to use Rolex's games to YOUR advantage.

That's another thing with the buying experience...if the watch actually shows up, you almost feel obligated to get it because it's "rare."

In the past year and a half, I've gone through:

Blue OP 39 (Actually wanted to like this one, but it needed either all lumed indices or all applied, wasn't a fan of just the 3-6-9)

Root Beer - Liked it a lot, but the brown was off putting at times, and sold it to fund the speedyeorite...it may find its way back into my collection in the future, but most likely in full rose gold flavor

Submariner - Bought for my Dad...it'll go to my son when he gets married (only one left)

White Roman DJ 41 - Wanted lume
Blue Fluted DJ 41 - Omega spoiled me with AR coating...would buy back if this gets introduced in DJs

Turquoise OP 41 - Elated with my decision but may buy this back in the future when its hotness dies down...but I do love the platinum blue roman day/date and have one possibly earmarked for a milestone

I've gone through a lot, but I think I was searching for "the one," or "the seven."

The AT is in that boat for sure!

Wow, that is one of the most stunning pieces I’ve seen in a long time!!! Truly amazing. It has to feel just incredible to look down at your wrist and see that beauty looking back at you.

Congrats and enjoy to the fullest!!
