White/silver AP 15450 as a smart sports watch/can be worn as a dress watch
14060m on natos/unusual straps (fits my daily casual wear style)
<insert chrono dress watch of some sort, PP 5170 perhaps>

I’m working towards this. I know it’s 4 but the Bluesy is 2.5 years out for my 50th.

This is right on the money, except the AP is running four seconds fast. So it probably needs a service.

FPJ Chronometer Souverain 38mm in rose gold as dress watch, Omega SMO midsize as diver, and Daytona as chrono. This is up the ideal collection.

But my current 3 piece rotation is FOIS, Reverso, and DJ.

Yeah I change my answer to this. Straight winner. If these were your only three and you always wore a watch, would the Lange be the gada?

Seems like most people are just picking 3 grails they want to own :-)

From a more thoughtful perspective a 3 piece collection from me would probably be.

1) A sporty daily piece.
116520 Black Dial

2) Something PM
A DayDate (not sure which I would choose)

2) Finally every collection must include a dress watch:
Lange Saxonia Annual Calendar Platinum.

Again, I think there needs to be set a budget in order to realistically choose 3. God there are so many watches to consider otherwise.

While I can appreciate the watches on display here they are mostly out of the reach of an average person.

If I were to choose 3 watches that are not only classics in their own right but more importantly can be aspired to by an average bloke I would choose

1. Speedmaster Moon Watch...a classic in any collection that oozes history and back story.
2. A JLC Reverso. The original sports watch that can serve as a dress watch.
3. Any Submariner. Instantly recognisable and desirable.

Use these as a base then add as you see fit.

I prefer slightly smaller than most people here seem to, so I'm pretty happy with these.Though to be honest I'm looking for something bigger to add, since with some outfits the watches just look out of proportion. Possibly an Omega Globemaster, so let's say that if I swapped it for the Tudor I'd be close to ideal.

I think I’m too practical...my ideal 3 watch collection (ie. usable for me in my real world):

Rolex Explorer II (5-digit, any dial) - sport/travel/casual
Omega Aqua Terra (any generation, dial color to complement Exp II) - casual/business
Casio G-Shock Square - when wearing either of the above is unwise

My preferred trio

BLRO is the best, the two chronograph compete for the second place...
Sorry for the poor image quality, I had to resize the image to upload it.

I have a 116610LN and hope to acquire a 126710BLRO in the next year or so. Then my third will likely be a dress watch and lately I've had my eye on a Tank LC mechanical, pink gold with leather strap (unless its too small when I try it on).

These would be the 3 if I were forced to only keep 3... not very original, but I really love the size/proportions and general aesthetic for them all, and they would cover nearly all bases for me

This is one of my favorite forum threads of all time.

The perfect trio can be from your own collection, a dream collection, all from Rolex, all different brands, etc.

Here are my 3 favorites from my collection.
