5167 or Daytona on Oysterflex

I’m looking for some feedback especially from anyone who’s had both.
I love the Aquanaut, used to have a 5065 but never tried the Daytona (hard to find one).
They’re pretty close price wise on the grey market (I dont think I can get either from an AD)
I understand the value is on the side of the Daytona (pretty close to msrp from greys) but is it enough to win over an Aquanaut?

Thank you all :-)

I’m a huge Daytona fan but I’d go 5167 over it. The PP wears so much slimmer. The OF on the Daytona sticks out at 12 and 6 and doesn’t hug the wrist as well.

I would keep in mind that you don’t need wrist awareness wearing the OF Daytona. With the aquanaut you don’t have the same freedom, that bezel needs more attention.

I'm waiting for someone to introduce steel colored and surfaced ceramic so we can finally use watches without wrist awareness being a factor. AP has shown they can finish it the same way so let's goooo RO and nautilus :). As is the Daytona will look pristine for longer and that's a big plus

Both are great choices!

I prefer the PP due to its simplicity and elegance. Might be a little small for some people though.

If you’re a big rugged outdoorsy guy then go for the Rolex otherwise I’d go with the 5167

Very different. Aquanaut is much more low key. Gold Daytona is probably more watch for the buck and quite uncommon as well.

The Aquanaut has a nice case and a beautiful visible movement behind. It's unbelievably value for money there.

Own both. Both cool pieces. The 5167 is understated and wears beautifully under the cuff of a shirt or with a t shirt in the summer. I do however, prefer the tropical strap, i just think being able to cut the strap to size gives this a positive edge. However, all in all... the Rolex Daytona is gorgeous. And here’s why...the weight given the white gold composition gives the feeling of more presence, and the dial is really special. Whether in the sunshine or in the winter months is looks superb, and wears well with almost the entire wardrobe. I just wish the oyster flex straps were a better fit for me. If I had to chose between... I’d take the Daytona.

If I had to chose between the Daytona and the 5164...I would need more time to think about that! :)

Tough one! Would depend on what else you have in your collection.
I would lean towards 5167 if I had other watches in my rotation that I could wear without having to be very "wrist aware".

Aquanaut for me. The Rolex is a bit garish compared with the patek

Had both. The Aquanaut was the most comfortable watch I’ve ever owned with great legibility but I got bored with it quite quickly. The Daytona, on the other had, is a striking piece with great wrist presence and built like a tank. I’d go for the Daytona.

Daytona, no comparison. PM, chrono, superior strap, ceramic bezel, and presence. 5167 nice but not equal to.

The Patek is sporty, the Daytona is for sports use. Considering my active lifestyle, Daytona is obviously an easy choice.

Daytona. The Tyre style rubber strap on the aquanaut is not very comfortable in my opinion. On my 5164 I struggle to get comfort fit without micro adjustment.

It's not the 5167's fault it's trading at 30k. The demand is skewing the merit of the watch in this contest, though i think a more apt comparison is between the daytona OF and the 5968a for the similar functions.

And I will pick the 5968a over the PM OF.

Hey buddy, here you go! I own both the 5167 and the 116519ln in my collection.

If you ask me, I really like the weight of the 5167a and I think it weighs much lighter compared to the Daytona. But the Daytona is a class on its own too, it’s way heavier on the wrist compared to the aquanaut(duhhh, it’s white gold )

Both really speaks to me, but In my opinion the 5167a is slightly more versatile because it fits the casual wear as well as the formal wear. For some reason the simplicity and the shape of the aquanaut bezel actually fits the formal work wear pretty well(I wear a suit for work). But really go for the one that you desire more. Of course there’s argument by many that the Daytona has a chronograph complication and is precious metal, compared to the aquanaut which is steel with no complications.

I have the 5164 and the Daytona. I think they are great for different reasons. The 5164 is a fantastic travel watch and is understated. Daytona is really sporty and the durability with the ceramic bezel makes you comfortable wearing it wherever. In terms of strap comfort, I’d give the edge to the Daytona because of the fins beneath the band. It stops the watch from rolling, while also giving it very good ventilation.

Just looking at the photos of both, it is an easy choice for me. The WG Daytona just really pops and is far better looking than the 5167. However, the Daytona is not haute horology and Pateks are. So if such things as that matter, the Patek has a lot of merit and if you do not have a Patek, I would suggest the 5167 as a first Patek.

Thank you for the feedback.
If I could get the 5164 at msrp, it would be my pick :-)

My other watches are 5726 and 114060 with Rubber B (yes, I do love rubber straps :-)
Like you mentioned, I wear the Sub when I don't want to be wrist aware.
I used to have a 5065 and miss the aquanaut, but with the current prices I was wondering if a Daytona was a better value.

Thanks again for everyone's opinions

Tough one. If you have other Pateks, maybe the Daytona. At grey prices, I just feel it makes more sense. But then again, you seem like to buy what you want for its own sake. So not concerned about values.

If you're all Rolex right now, then the Patek.

No wrong choices. Nice spot to be in. Have fun.
