AP "Equation of time" dial change: Royal Oak/Juels Audemars

Hey Guys,

Im about to purchase my very first AP. I have gone throw the model lineup and discovered that the model i want does not quite exist. I would like to have the Royal Oak Equation of Time (http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wat...uation-of-time) but with the skeleton dial from the Juels Audemars collection (http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wat...T.OO.D002CR.01). The calibre 2120/2808 is the same on both models. I have not yet approached AP with my idea. What do you guys think, is it technically feasible and what the reaction from AP would be? will they even allow it even if its possible?

I also made some photoshopping of how the watch will look. I havent decided yet whether whether i want it in steel or gold so i made both versions. I also changed the brown strap to black one on the gold version. Do you know if there is a rubber strap available for this model?

Of cos it's possible !, but you would probably need to purchase both watches and do the swapping of dial yourself:).

Edited - the dials are 1mm apart in size, you may need to do some filing to fit the open work into a 42mm case :). Good luck .

I'm sure ap would be willing to make you a 1/1 creation. Just give them a ring. Why you've got the CEO on the phone, could you ask him to tone down the roo' s for me?

Afraid I can't see them doing this. Maybe if you were a long standing customer...but even then it would be expensive!

I am sure with the right amount of money they will do it. I would expect it to cost 5X the amount though..

If you're going down this road, do Platinum!

I would have thought that it would be quite easy technically. Just a dial change... If AP says no then plan B is to buy the watch, order the skeleton dial, find a good watchmaker and let them change the dial.

Don't get me started on custom APs..........how much pain and how many broken promises have I been through on this with AP. One of the reasons I have (largely) lost my AP mojo if I am honest.

I'm not surprised...I can't believe they agreed to make a glow in the dark pink Diver for you in the first place...no wonder they changed their minds!

It's not just a basic dial change. The movement has to be skeletonised as well (extremely labour intensive). That's why the skeletonised pieces from AP are priced much higher.

I'd rather not share I am afraid - many of the problems resided as much with the dealer I was using as with AP themselves. In conclusion though I gave up trying after over a year of negotiations on some very simple amendments to existing pieces that were somewhat less ambitious than what you are proposing here. Initialled rotors and rotors with insignias on are much easier to achieve as an example.

I guess for me, AP is not a one off watch company. So buy what they have, but don't expect more than that.

Imagine going to Patek and telling them you want a several custom items...need I imagine how that conversation would go.

Just commenting, may not be worth more than that.
