What would you buy for $20k?

I have a budget of $20k to buy an engagement watch. I have a Rolex GMT Master II, IWC Portuguese, and a Panerai. Watch would have to be brand new, unworn.

I would like to venture into the holy trinity, though I know my choices are limited. I was thinking about an AP Royal Oak chrono or the new vacheron triple calendar. But I also want a pp watch, which means I would have to step outside of the holy trinity. Thoughts?

You have got three great watches however if you can own the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 then you have a serious holy grail watch & that's some engagement gift.

This is a Rolex forum. I vote for a DD40.

I would flip the IWC and Panerai.

With your budget, I would get a Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167a. Congrats on your engagement

This whole Holy Trinity is a joke. After owning all of them I can honestly give out the biggest yawn you have ever seen.

Some BS that somebody made up a while back to increase the prestige of Patek, AP and Vacheron.

IMHO get a Patek Nautilus ,because it is a grail watch and this is a grail moment in life, you could also wear it daily and scuffs will just make it look better. Also it is a watch that you can pass down to future generations without the worry of it breaking. Anyways congratulations

I would go to the Grey Market and get the best deal possible on the white dial Daytona-C. For cash, after the holiday season, 16-17K. With the remaining money I would pickup either a Omega Speed Master, pre-owned, or a Tudor Pelagos. Should take care of 20K.

For watch jewelry the Patek is a choice, yet buy right as resale values have been dropping on many models. Service takes forever too. If it was me, i'd be looking for an elegant daily beater. It's an engagement thing, so wear it daily as a 'reminder' of this very special time within your life. BTW i did the rare wear cerebration thing, kinda seemed empty because it rarely got worn. What's the point of that?

With that said, none of what you chose and go with a SkyD. Great daily beater, has annual calendar and has two time zone functions if you travel the world quite a bit as i do. Very EASY to set, so DO NOT underestimate ease of use that it sets forward and back in time. These useful complications seem to be sorta missing in your collection (i think, you didn't list specific models). A Patek grand complication cured me of pusher pin day/date/month/moon phase/ nightmares.

So yes, imho get a true daily beater that has great FUNctionality and is easy to set. Something that wears nicely at the pool/beach as much as when wearing a suit... or jeans. That way you'll know engagement day was special each and every day you look at your wrist.

But hey, wtf do i know as am just a simple romantic at heart, JMHO

For collection diversity my vote would be AP Royal Oak.
But hard to beat the value on a SS Sky Dweller if can be bought from AD at retail price.
Cheers
