Vintage AP
I don't like the royal oak. JUST AN OPINION! Don't be mad.
I DO like those ultra thin models AP made in the 60s and 70s. I have only seen a couple references-- so I'm curious what you guys may like from that era. Thanks! |

I have a white gold ultra-thin Audemars Piguet - it's a B-series, so from around 1975 or thereabouts. The finishing is incredible, the applied gold indices really sparkle in the light, and the black dial has such a depth to it. The black, perhaps because there's slight blue tone to it, also has a warmth, and an expansiveness to it. The opposite of matte.
The thinness is quite incredible and a real testament to the quality of the 2001 calibre. Depending on the dial and the metal combination, these can be dressed up or down - I currently have it on a dark blue leather strap from Hodinkee which makes it slightly less formal, slightly more versatile. It can disappear under your shirt cuff, or it can be a gorgeous dark 'pop' while you're in a white t-shirt. |
