Info on ‘54 or ‘55 Oyster Perpetual

Howdy Vintage TRF Friends,
I’m looking for any information that those of you that know Rolex’s from the 1950’s might be able to share. This watch was my Grandfather’s, we know he purchased it new around 1954 or 1955.

I remember him wearing it on a leather band (we have pictures of that) and I also remember him buying the jubilee bracelet…he was so proud of it. And I was impressed! I admired him on so many levels and attribute my interest in Rolex to him. My father owns the watch today and I will inherit it from him.

Any information on this classic timepiece would be much appreciated.

Probably some numbers on the case sides and inside the case back that will help you track down some history.

Worn Bombe' lugs are still looking great.

It seems likely that the dial has been refinished at some time.

Bombe or Bombay lugs.
There are few different references. 6090, 6018, 1010.
I think most of these originally came with the super oyster crown, that used gaskets instead of screwing down.
An experiment that only lasted a couple of years.
