Question for Panda dial S/Steel Daytona owners (incl poll)

Hello all.

I am curious to learn more about how people have acquired their Panda dial Ceramic S/S Daytona specifically.

In particular;

- If you bought it from an AD or not is really interesting

- For those who the answer is YES to above, roughly speaking what track record did you have with the AD in order to obtain one?

I've asked my AD recently (decent not but not amazingly close relationship, have bought maybe 4 watches for me, 1 for my wife, 1 piece of jewellery for my wife, and introduced a customer who bought 1 watch for him and 1 for his wife over a time period of 8 years).

Her response was along the lines of having zilch/zero/nada/absolute no chance whatsoever.

Just looking to know more about how people actually obtain one of these as clearly I am quite a bit off!

Maybe your AD said it’s not possible because there is no modern SS Daytona with a “panda” dial?

Technically speaking it isn’t a Panda dial since the subdials would need to be solid black instead of rings.

Average spend at an AD in the U.S to be granted the SS Daytona is at least 120k annually

When I sneeze and ask for a “Kleenex”, shockingly only 1 out of 10,000 people gets confused and says they only have Scott facial tissues. Unfortunately that’s the one guy I am forced to use his shirt to blow my nose on because they needed to be more painfully accurate than helpful.

Oh I'm one of those people. I take everything everyone says LITERALLY.
When I'm in bed with the missus and she tells me to play with her pussy, I'm straight out of bed and downstairs with a ball of string and some catnip for Garfield!
I find correcting everybody on every minuscule inaccuracy really warms people to me you know.

Haha brilliant

I did try "white dial with rings" but alas, along with not being quite as catchy it didn't get me what I was looking for;

That's actually really helpful insight, thank you!

$120k (Ł96k) annually is quite an amount. Assuming you'd need to maintain that over a multi year period as opposed to rocking up and sending $120k in one go?

Crikey. Quite an eye opener that, makes my small history with them look quite pathetic

It must be incredibly frustrating for you. One word of caution though, if the word “pounding” ever comes up in bed with the wife it’s probably best to lock the cat out side and get some clarifications and not act with your first instincts. Because it could lead to some jail time and “hide the soap” in jail won’t be what you think it is either. .

Well, after the above debate on the Panda vs Non-Panda vernacular...

To answer the original question, it really depends on the AD and your location. There are so many different dynamics that can affect the allocation and if you will ever see one. I got mine in 2019 after a nine-month wait and purchasing four watches and no jewelry. I have a friend in another city who has purchased close to $240K in watches and jewelry and he is still waiting.

I have a black and white Daytona. Both purchased from my local AD. Black one came first then the white 2 years later. Purchases before and in between of course. It really, really depends on your specific AD. It’s been said a million times because it’s true. If they’re saying there’s no chance, then they don’t intend on getting you one. If they say it’ll happen XYZ, then it might.

I have the the Panda and I got it from my AD on my 50th birthday. The wait time was 9 months, the plan was hatched by my wife and AD as a surprise. I have had no jewelry purchase just multiple SS models for myself and my friends.
Good luck!

I got a black dial 116500 from my AD after a 9 month wait because that’s the one I asked for. I had bought two other SS Professional models prior to that. I don’t believe prior spend is as important as most people think, at least at my AD.

Waiting on AD.. Not paying grey prices. Also not desperate to own it.

9 months, but a bit different for me in that I initially had no interest in acquiring one. Our AD offered it right before the holidays…went from meh to asking for the Black dial…
Between my wife and I we had purchased 7 Rolex and 2 other brands. Our jewelry purchases were only items we were buying anyway (earrings and necklace for my wife).

Bought mine in May 2017. One month before that, bought a DJ2. No other spend history but worked with a local AD

Bought mine from local AD. Prior purchases were BB58, BB GMT, Milgauss, Sub, YG Daytona on OF, and the SS Daytona White dial. Also purchased a couple of cartiers and some random jewelry over the past few years. And the big ticket. A Shinola Sea Monster for my oldest son!

Traded a Hulk and DJ41 for a white dial 116500. I wasn’t really wearing them after I picked up a DayDate a few months ago. There is some truth the the “once you go full precious metal” argument, at least for me.

I actually asked this forum if they would do that trade and the responses were about 50/50 either way. I’ve owned a Sub and DJ41 in the past but not a Daytona and curiosity got the best of me.

I have no regrets, the Daytona is pretty special I will say.

This poll data is probably skewed secondary market.

Because we are WIS and a freaking crazy bunch - as a whole.

IRL the data would probably show a higher acquisition rate at AD.

Also, 100% of Daytona first comes from AD.

Edit, mine came from AD after about a 18-20 month wait. It was my first Rolex from them after about two Tudors.
