Embarrassing experience at Cartier mansion with my santos

I love my Cartier santos but it’s running too fast. I had 3 different tests done on the time and got +9 +12 and +17. So I took it into Cartier mansion in NYC to have them regulate it since it’s under warranty. I explained the three time readings and said it needs to be regulated. They took my watch to the “watchmaker” and brought it out in 2 minutes saying “it’s fixed.”

To them, they thought “running fast” and “regulate” meant I was asking how to set the time. They then proceeded to tell me it’s an automatic watch.

TL/DR: Cartier mansion thought I came in literally to ask how to change the time on my watch…

That’s hilarious! I despise that NYC flagship boutique. A lot of the SAs are snobbish and stuck up. I remember on the coldest day of the year, they refused to let me and my wife in because of COVID restrictions, which is totally understandable. But, don’t tell us to wait and not give us an update of when. There was no one in the store but bunch of SAs waiting around by the door. Really put a bad taste. We ended up going to Hudson Yards store and made our purchases there.

One thing about that store is there is a lot of history and it’s beautiful though.

I'll defend the salesperson as, well, not everyone is intrinsically knowledgeable on... like asking a kid to drive a manual transmission car. Did the watchmaker re-regulate it for you?

I pity the fool that has to deal with us WIS folks when we come into the shop.

"What do you MEAN you don't know what the difference between a 16170, 116710 and 126710 is?!"

They did not regulate it but it took me speaking to three different people to explain I know how to set the time on a watch

I agree when it comes to super technical aspects of time pieces from places like Cartier that do not exclusively deal in watches. However, saying "The watch is running way too fast and needs regulating" doesn't strike me as being on par with asking to explaining the mechanics of the parachrom hairspring for example

I don't disagree.

It is crazy that they thought you didn't know how to set the time!
