Wearing TT Sky in Manhattan?
Traveling to NYC this summer. Will be spending all my time around Manhattan for a week. Wondering with the recent crime spike if it’s still safe to wear my TT skydweller with short sleeves walking around with my wife. I have good awareness however it can be flashy with a T shirt regardless. Opinions?

I would leave the Rolex at home.
We already stick out as tourists and I don’t want more unneeded attention my way. -IndependentCandy14 |

I live in NYC and wear my watches all the time with zero problems or concerns. Would not own them otherwise.

My wife and I walk around wearing all our watches from AP/PP to our Rolexes in both PM and SS. Like anywhere else…be smart and you will be fine. I was walking around last night in the west village wearing a Platinum Day Date while my wife was wearing her YG malachite DD. Only issue we had was no cabs at midnight….and long Uber waits.

Leave at home and enjoy your trip! Why have a watch on the back of your mind during a vacation?

What's the point of a watch if you're afraid to wear it in one of the largest cities in the world???
Are you only wearing it in a little village or at home? Situational awareness is paramount for any trip anywhere... Whether or not you have a watch / phone / camera / fanny pack etc on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sorry maybe I overreacted because you're talking about "my" city. But I guess the challenge I have with "is it safe to wear my Rolex in XXX" is that's it's really repetitive and you will not glance at any new insights. There's bad actors in every city as much as there are thousands of people richer than you or me and wearing Rolex every day... Exercise awareness and don't flash and you'll most likely be OK in ANY city Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wear it and enjoy. Get it insured if you're worried. If someone is going to rob you, it doesn't matter what your wearing, they'll rob you for a dollar. Situational awareness is key.

The one time I didn't wear my President on vacation my house was broken into and my safe opened with tools from my own tool box. And I'm from NYC

My mother in law stuck mine in her boot after it went though security at La Guardia, then forgot. I went into a panic and stopped the entire TSA/line, while she sat on a bench in the distance having forgot she took off with my watch. When I went over to her to see if she knew where it was and she remembered (oops!), she slapped it on the metal bench upset that I was upset with her. Mother-in-law's...
10/10 would do again. A NYC trip isn't a NYC trip without making those lifetime memories you forever associate with certain watches. Plus all the watch pics.. what's a room at the four seasons without a shot of the Sub on the table with the city in the background? |

Being a tourist in NYC makes one stand out and become a target. No need to take needless risks. I grew up there but times have changed.

Manhattan is a big place. I wouldn't be worried wearing it in Times Square or other highly crowded areas but I definitely wouldn't walk around the side streets with it. Don't flash it while at restaurants, if there's a watch theft trend, it's restaurants.

I wouldn't worry about it.
If you feel like taking an extra precaution, I'd maybe wear long-sleeves that can be pushed/rolled up and then let down (subway, sketchy hood...) |

A few years back I stopped traveling anywhere for leisure with my expensive watches. In order to make it fun I buy a beater each year around about this time of year and just prior to my customary 3 months away (EU or LATAM). In fact I just posted this years beater purchase on another forum section.

Hey, I agree and I wore my watches for around +25 years until around 4-5 years ago. To be honest I enjoy the summer beater hunt and then having a watch that reminds me of that summer. There’s just too much unsavory interest surrounding our beloved hobby of late and I simply don’t want the hassle when I’m relaxing. To each their own right?

No concerns at all.
I wear my watches without any problem. The only thing I would avoid is the subway, because lately is generally unsafe. Other than that you are good, you will spot watches way more expensive than a two tone Rolex ;) Enjoy your trip! |

Wear my watches all the time in the city. Office, Bars/Restaurant, Clubs, Subway. You will be fine. Its not LA we are talking about.

If you look like a rube, you will get rolled.
