Mito Pereira PGA Championship meltdown on the 72nd

Watched most of the third round and all of the fourth and I still can't believe what Pereira did on the 18th hole yesterday. Soul crushing. Feel terrible for him. That was one of the uglier tee shots I've seen in a major. All he had to do was PAR out. This is the kind of defeat some never recover from. Hope he can do it. Happy JT got his second but man oh man Mito had it!

Watched it and it was hard to believe he hit that drive the way he did. Reminds me a little of Greg Norman’s meltdown at the ‘96 Masters.
I hope, and I think he will, recover.

Not sure Norman ever won another tournament after the 96 collapse. I know he never won another major. His career was effectively done after that one. Mito is young so hopefully he does come back from this.

Pretty hard to watch. Good for JT to make the comeback though.

I missed too much of it for father in laws birthday though :(

That follow through on his tee shot reminded me of me. And I can't golf. One of the ugliest swings I've seen. Wow.

I was amazed at how fast some of the new guys' tempo was, and they just go up there are let it rip very quickly. I hardly watch golf anymore, but this seemed like a whole new way of doing business. But what do I know?

oof. that swing looks like a cut wanted to combine with a low pull. i'm sure his body was like "no, no. this is all wrong."

damn. rookie, no wins...he will never forget that feeling. can't begin to imagine the nerves, and his first thought after he struck the ball - that instantaneous response where your mind knows that was not what you had planned. poor guy.

That slow motion replay from the side of his tee shot was something out of a horror movie. It was like his legs and knees just collapsed. Had to be nerves. It was hard to watch.

Saw his post meltdown interview and he seemed ok. He did finish 3rd in his first major after all. Yes, that was a swing I see every Thursday in my golf league!! I was thinking Van de Velde watching it but was actually worse because he missed the playoff!

The guy I thought of was Van de Velde in the '99 British Open. Especially when he hit in the water. At least he didn't take his shoes off and try to hit it out.

How was that a melt down? Dosen’t every amateur or professional everywhere who ever played golf hit bad shots and make bogeys?

It’s golf and it’s not easy!

This to shall pass and hopefully he will learn from this experience. I can only imagine the mental and physical pressure the leaders are in. Having not truly felt this before one really doesn't know how you will react. I wish him the best and that he has the mental and physical ability to pull it off the next time he is it a winning situation.

One of the most bizarre ending to a golf tournament. That double bogey was tough to watch. The pressure got to him. JT is a good guy…

Agree, it was bizarre. I really wonder why he went with driver on 18, 3 wood would have covered it. I blame the caddy, needs to be watching eyes and body language. Mito looked like he blacked out during the driver swing. In the post interview Mito sounded very rational, he said he came in wanting to make the cut and he was content to finish where he did.

Happy for JT and Bones. JT has a lot of game, if his mental toughness improves he could be really dominant. Would also like to see Zalatoris win one, love that guy’s personality, he has a lot of courage and very humble.

Cant blame him for hitting the big dawg, damn near a 500 yard par 4.... I think thats where an experienced mental coach (CADDIE) is priceless! He handled it and the post like a true professional...

Im more concerned about Will's putting, he better make the Ryder and Pres Cup on points, 'cuz aint no Captain picking him!

I agree, a great Caddie would have known that he was nervous and suggested he hit three wood. Shame because he seems like a good guy. That said, this meltdown was nowhere near as bad Van de Velde's at the open.
