Does you AD use words like Smurf or Hulk?

I have purchased from two AD's. Never heard either use Smurf or Hulk or any other slang term for a modern Rolex.

However, I have heard "Great White" and similar terms for vintage pieces.

Your experience?

I have heard them used in a larger AD I visited in Las Vegas, but I would assume that’s more to make sure the drunk tourists understand which watches they won’t be able to purchase new lol.

Never, they almost always refer to them by their designated Rolex names and occasionally by reference number.

My AD's SAs, head of department and Rolex buyer slide in and out of model numbers, conventional model names and nicknames/slang seamlessly.

I haven't heard them using what I would regard as the more silly, forced names (Cookie Monster, Sprite, Cermit, Starbucks to name but a few) but Hulk, Kermit, new Kermit, 12 series Kermit, Smurf, Bluesy, Pepsi, Coke, both Bat genders, Platona, Panda have certainly been heard either to me or in adjacent and/or group conversations.

They have not, but I've never referred to them in that way. If I did, I imagine it is possible they would reciprocate, as they are in retail sales, after all.

My AD didn't use slang terms, until I did. Then he used them a lot. Probably just using the sales tactic of being a "mirror", or once I showed that I knew the names, it was just easier for him too.

Of course they do. That's how I was able to get my green goblin, David Hasselhoff and my ALF. Still waiting on a Pepsi girl and a raider of the lost ark.

If my AD says cookie monster, I'm only buying TAG Heuer from that point on.

Definitely heard SAs at various ADs use those nicknames. Btw, would calling daydate a president/ial qualify as using a slang/nickname?

I don't use nicknames to talk about watches with my AD. I use reference numbers or obvious terms (GMT blnr, or Sub LV, or Daytona black dial...).

If you walk into an AD and ask for a "crispy cream" or a "cookie monster" I can tell you FOR SURE they think you are an idiot.

I avoid it. Personal preference and respect for the Brand.

Type “Batman” into the search on Rolex.com and you’ll see how Rolex feels about the name.

You can bet you bottom dollar that if a Whale calls a 126610LV a Starbucks the AD staff will know what the person means and will happily speak that language (versus a swift, stern correction… “I’m sorry, you can’t use silly names and buy a Rolex”. Not gonna happen, they will speak whatever language the “desired customer” elects to speak. I’m not saying ADs don’t despise the silly names. But rather suggesting the will play along with the proper audience). They are in sales. They speak the customers’ language.
