I went to the dinner on Thursday night and Mr Stern was wearing a 5960/1A.

Thanks for sharing! I just happened to bump into him today at the Saatchi Gallery. I introduced myself to him and told him I enjoyed the exhibition. We talked for maybe 30 seconds and he seems quite down to earth with a sense of humor. He was nice enough to pose for a picture as well. I told him that I just picked up the 5575G from my AD and that today was the first real opportunity to wear it. He said that it's a piece many collectors would love to have and was sure it was well deserved. He is a very nice gentleman indeed!

That's was a very nice compliment to make. He does come across as a true gentleman.

He seems to like to wear models that many would describe as being for the younger Patek wearer.

...or models faced with some adversity:
5167A-001 as a "mere entry level Patek;"
5960/1A-001 as sporting "a bracelet reminiscent of Breitling."
I don't agree with the above opinions, but I have read or heard them expressed by others. Perhaps (as I suggested earlier) the man in charge of the company wears them to emphasize positive attributes, so that one is less inclined to magnify the negatives associated with those particular models. "What's good enough for the Owner/President of the company..."
It's about marketing and image.
