I love Panerai - I have both Luminor and Radiomir base varieties. The Daytona does not push my buttons. I would pick the Panerai.

100% serious question
$21k for a platinum manual winding chronograph with a visible finished Lemania movement and 100m water resistance in a rare limited edition of only 30 made. Find me something similar for similar money? You can't find 100m in precious metal often in a manual wind chrono and the reverse panda dial is very attractive to me. The Daytona Black Dial 116520 in mint condition costs a bit more and has a lot going for it. Other than both being chronos they're very different. I was just wondering if anyone would say hey the Daytona is overrated and the Panerai in platinum at that price is underrated. Maybe I should have posed the question as this: Would you rather pay $21k for this Platinum Panerai Chrono or $100k for a Platona? I didn't ask that question b/c I am not considering the Platona. I see some value in this Panerai but the only time I've sprung for a watch like this is my Daytona. BTW the Panerai is 1 of 30 and the examples I found of previous sales old for $39k at auction in 2009 and $56k in 2015. So for even money I think I am going to move on the deal. I just wanted to hear if anyone felt similar but I think the overwhelming response is no one is putting down $20k on any Panerai these days. |

Should I have posted in the Panerai section of TRF for more diverse opinions? It's amazing though reading all the posts on TRF from 10 years ago about how much rarer Panerais were and how common and boring Rolex are!

PAM is nice and all, yet no original box, no straps, no tools... and no papers make it a pass.

Not a fan of the modern day Daytona it must be the most over hyped Rolex watch ever. But today many buy the hype to wear the hype, yes it has a great movement but I would choose the Panerai as its a little bit different over the Daytona.

Because of the quality of fakes out there with Panerai. No inner or outer box, no papers, no tools, no straps, severely hurts the resale value of this model. DO NOT compare to previous sales or auctions unless they too were completely naked.
