Hey guys,

I have been trying to get my hands on a Daytona SS and keep nagging my AD. Today I saw him again, and he said that he had a Green Milgauss. I am new to rolex watches so not sure if its a good buy. He says that they are rare.

THought i better run it past you guys before making a decision.

I wouldn't use the word rare - I've had no trouble finding them (3 ADs) and they come up for sale fairly regularly here on TRF...depends what the price tag is...sounds like sticker, in which case I would say it's not particularly noteworthy.

The watch will be worth £400 less the moment you leave the AD with it so it's not an investment of any sort.

It is comparatively rare though and a real nice watch.

Mine's a keeper.

dont get fooled, its not as hard (ie rare) to get as it used to be and i have a GV - so full disclosure. if your heart is set on SS daytona, then keep bothering the AD for one. if you want the GV, then push hard for a 10% discount at least. just my 2 cents

Two years ago, they were "rare" as in hard to get... I can honestly say, I have seen them in EVERY AD I have been in during the past year. So, maybe 8 AD's and each one had one or two. How much did he offer it to you for? If it's discounted and you love it, then it's a good buy. If you are paying full retail and expect to "make money" then likely not a good deal.

Also, don't buy it if you love the SS Daytona and this will keep you from getting that when it comes in. You may kick yourself down the road if you "settle".

Just my thoughts...

after seeing you are from london, i remember many members from the UK commenting on how its more difficult to obtain certain rolexes, so maybe they can comment. i can only speak for what i have seen in the US over the years. good luck.

concur, concur - get the GV cuz you like the way it looks, not just bcuz of what others say about it. if u really want the SS daytona, then its worth the wait.

The GV is a great watch, no doubt, but, as others have said, you need to want it....Plus, it's pretty unique and special with the green and orange, so double that advice.

Looks to me like the AD is just trying to make a sale....

The price is RRP, so no discount.

I have a Deep sea and love it, was just looking for a second watch to alternate. I would prefer a Daytona, though it seems that they are very very hard to come by in the UK.

I must admit that I did not mind the GV, I think I will have a look at a few more pics ;) damn wish i did not catch this rolex bug he he

The GV isn't rare in the UK. I've seen them at AD's in Liverpool and Chester recently.

The AD you were speaking to was talking BS. Try some more AD's you may have some luck with the Daytona.

You probably know it already but VAT is going up soon so find one quick if you can.

Its a very common watch at this point. Just look on the for sale section.

They're getting to windows now, there's one where I work, and I've seen one in Sheffield too. Nowhere near as rare as some ADs are trying to make out - and that's the gospel truth

It's a nice watch that was once supposed to be rare - first because Rolex had problems with the green crystal and then because unscrupulous dealers hoarded it, claming it was a limited edition. These two factors enabled dealers to charge a huge premium during the first year the watch was issued, a premium that ran as high as 100% over the list price.

However, once those production problems were ironed out and more GVs came to the market, everyone wised up to the fact that the watch was not a limited edition. So today, not only is the watch relatively easy to find, you should be able to get it at a discount.

But only buy if you like it and it "sings'' to you, otherwise stick to your Daytona goal.

The Millgauss GV is a stunning Rolex.. but not for a daily use! It's rather a collectable Rolex and ideal as a 3rd or 4th Rolex.. It's available with a good discount anyway. Though I suggest you get a SS Daytona as a first Rolex for every day use.. And you will be lucky if you can find it with a descent price because it's top of the list worldwide! Good Luck!

Since the AD is not interested in offering any discount, I will take my time with the GV. My heart is sat on the SS daytona so will keep looking.
