unusual experience with an AD????

Hi

I placed my order for a Daytona with my AD around 9 months ago. Asked him if I had a real chance of getting one as I heard that it was almost impossible to get one and the reply was : I can get on the list but his recommendation was to pay in full the watch and place the pre order as that will give me a better shot.

so I did that even tho I was not very happy but hey , you gotta pay if you want to play. time passed by and I placed an order for a SS YM rhodium in the mean time as I figured out it might take a while for me to get the Daytona.

long story short , I received the call for the Daytona on a Tuesday and by Friday of the same week I got the call to pick up the YM!!!!!! For the Daytona I waited 9 months and for the YM I waited less than 2.

I wasn't expecting that at all but Im very happy with the result. Im just wondering if paying upfront is the way to go.

Most ADs won't let you pay a deposit or in full. So I would say yes, 9 months is unusual for a Daytona unless you have a good relationship with them.

I think my dealer makes some people make deposits, I’ve never had to.

Congrats and wear them in good health but I refuse to deal with AD's. I will always buy preowned from a trusted seller. I refuse to pay MSRP and be put on a waiting list.

Paid in full for a Pepsi, AD says he won't be doing that anymore as it puts too much pressure on him. New policy is when he gets a watch he basically sells it to the 1st person with the cash. No more lists or deposits. Luck of the draw and big fish only.

I had to pay in full at a new Rolex AD in Miami where I had no history. Within months I had my JC DSSD. Two years later when the white dial Daytona was shown in Basel, I repeated the sequence, paid in full and 7 months later I received my white dial ceramic Daytona. My local AD where I live and have bought 7 watches over the years for myself and my family could not get these watches for me.

Congratulations!!
I don’t believe that it would make a difference with most ADs to pay upfront! It’s not like they will get stuck with a daytona in their case!!

I mean I get it, but then I don't as you pay in full you go on the list of folks who paid in full and get it in that order...but I am sure there are plenty who won't want to pay in full or at all and still want to get on a list.

As for the OP I echo the congrats...I am sure paying in full, and or the other Rolex purchase may have helped but at this point you have both watches you wanted and one of them was way under the secondary market price in a relative short amount of time so I'd consider that a win
