2) Panerai Radiomir Chronograph WEMPE Special Edition Platinum Manual Wind Limited Edition 30 pieces 2005. Watch only.

I will never buy a watch produced by a large luxury group. Having visited personally the campus de la haute horlogerie, and knowing what I know of Richemont and LVMH, I suggest you stay very far from any brand they own.

I don't know anything about Panerai watches but it would be the Daytona for me.

I think the 2002 watches had the slim hands which I really like.

i am surprised no one sees the value in the panerai. granted it's a lemania movement but it's a manual wind, very limited and handsome chronograph in a platinum case for the same money as a 116520. I am on the fence but I see the appeal. I put it up against the steel daytona because they are basically the same cost.

When it comes to manual wind chronos with a handsome display back, there aren't many options offering 100m water resistance in platinum.

In general I am not a fan of Panerai chronographs, I prefer their simpler three hand designs. You didn’t mention pricing but is that platinum LE really the same price as a 116520?
If so and you like both I would choose the PAM.

The platinum panerai chrono is cheaper than the 116520 by a few grand.

Then if you like it I’d be all over it. LE Platinum special versus a mass produced watch made for 16 years?

I've yet to see a Panerai I actually like. Don't get hung up on the platinum part... The Daytona is the only way to go here.

Rolex Daytona 116520 vs Panerai Radiomir Chrono 1/30

I love panerai! Just not a big fan of the radiomirs. A luminor on the other hand...

So for me it would come down to the Daytona.

Not a fan of Panerai, not a fan of the cushion case shape, not a fan of those Panerai lugs

I would take the Daytona without a secong thought

I like the idea of the Panerai (platinum, limited edition, etc) but in the end would favor the design of the Daytona. The Pano looks too busy to me; I'd prefer a more typical time only or time + date model. If you really like the Panerai, it represents decent value. However, if you get it only for the "value" you may be disappointed later. Best wishes

Daytona.
And I’m not hung up on the big brand/large luxury group noise.

Get the pam

There are not enough Daytonas out there for those that really want them.

We are trying to be polite and not mention that this is not a beautiful panerai (personal opinion) :)

If we want a real watch aficionados crash test we should put daytona head to head with the luminor chrono pam 01218. Perfection. :)

the Daytona is too small for my wrist and not a big fan of the Radiomir. personally i would buy one of these, Luminor Chrono PAM01109 on a SS bracelet or a Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Flyback - 44mm PAM01037 or a Luminor Yachts Challenge - 44mm PAM00653.

This is the Rolex forum. Panerai does indeed make some beautiful timepieces, however!! I have the 275 and love it!!!
