Why wouldn’t the SA just sell it to a friend and take it over?

A very strange situation.

First, all SS pieces are now hard to get.

In any case, I would 100% do it. If you don't want the watch you bought and you do sell it to the SA at the same rate you bought it for, I don't see the issue he is free to do whatever he wants with it.

This SA can help you get access to the really hard to get pieces, which you can then flip for a neat profit (which is what we all are after with Rolex nowadays, isn't it?).

OP has acquired or been offered a new Sub, Pepsi, Batgirl, and Root Beer in less than a year... so, he’s doing something right.

If your SA asks you for a favor, try to figure something out.

Just make sure you give the SA a gift to express your appreciation at being able to do business

Lol an SA does not want to pay retail for a watch. They can make a special arrangement with the owner to somehow obtain a steel sports model. This sounds like a very bad idea to begin with. If anything, front load the deal and get at least 2-3 hot pieces you want first, then get them the one they want. That way if you end up banned, you’re good. I would do it that way.

Do the deal and document the whole thing then have a cup of coffee with the owner and tell him you'll take that 116500 white he's got in the safe or you'll pitch the information onto YouTube and Rolex lol

Buying new watches is such an absurd waste of time these days. Unless you buy diamonds, which is fine, I wouldn't even bother setting foot in a rolex AD.

Situation: Help get a SS Rolex for MSRP by purchasing it first and allowing them to purchase. In exchange they will place you on the “VIP” List which exponentially increases chances of obtaining “Hard to get pieces” and be invited to special events. I.e. skydweller blue dial, Daytona, etc.

I won’t name the AD and it is located out of state from me but I frequently travel for business there. I personally said no, but would love to hear if anyone has been in this situation because I was completely taken aback. I honestly didn’t even know what to say.
This may very well be considered a fraudulent "pay to play" scheme. The SA is proposing a deal whereby you secretly give the SA a thing of value (a watch whose market value is more than you paid for it) and the SA/AD gives you an incentive to purchase from them exclusively. This type of thing is often considered fraud because it non-competitively disadvantages ADs from selling product who do not engage in such practices.

Transparent open bundling is usually legal. So for example if the dealer had a sign out saying you must purchase $10,000 of jewelry to buy a Submariner sitting right there in the case it probably would be OK, since there is no "secret profit" and all competitors know the playing field.

The legal dodgy area with "relationship building" by pseudo bundling is when the SA/AD solicits the speculative purchase of product with no contractual promise or guarantee to deliver the final product. And let's face it, that is exactly what is going on. I doubt any AD really knows when or if you get that sub. Such a practice discourages the purchaser in theory from buying from another AD (which is non competitive).

Come to think of it, one reason Rolex could be shutting down ADs so there is only one in a large sales area is that it reduces the likelihood that such speculative bundling is going to be considered non-competitive fraud.

Another "my ad told me" but mine showed me a 36mm Turquoise OP a few months ago, he said it wasn't for sale as they were letting an employee buy it. I asked if they ordered or do they buy from stock. He told me this watch came in and they were holding for the SA but that employees can order one piece from Rolex but it has to be engraved by Rolex from the factory. That's all the info he gave me but thought it was interesting. Again who actually knows but thought this was a good thread to share this on.

Think we're blurring the lines between "building a relationship" and categorical bribes.

I get my SA flowers when I get a watch.

When I got my Daytona she got a weekend at my beach house.

I wouldn’t buy a watch just to sell to her and for the purpose of being moved up the list.

This seems a bit ridiculous.

It kind of makes my head hurt how someone would ask a near stranger to do something that, if known by their boss, could very likely get them fired and harm their long-term career prospects, or, if known by Rolex, could potentially even jeopardize the AD's relationship with the mothership. If I was in that situation and a SA asked me this, I would feel more than a bit uncomfortable given someone is willing to risk losing everything for a small short-term profit.

To provide some more context...I have no purchase history with the AD, but have stopped by several times previous for interest in the 126610LV. They later text me about the proposition and in no way did I bring it up. Obviously I did not take the offer because it sounds “Sketchy” to say the least.

I do have some amazing ADs in my local area that I actually have a “good” relationship. I have never had to bundle. Really just persistency and being able to connect with management.

If members feel like the thread should be locked it’s okay. I just like to put some context of what some SA’s are doing out there.
