Icon20 WEMPE watches

Dear Friends:

Though a Rolex fan at heart, I have been considering lately, the purchase of a Wempe watch.
I like very much the elegant and classic design of these watches, and it is also tempting to know they are being made at the location of Glashutte, the German place where so many famous watches like A Lange and Glashutte brands are being made.

Do any of the TRF fellow members own a Wempe? Or has any good personal experience (or bad for that matter) with this brand?

I´m specially interested in one of these two models, pictures taken from the Wempe web site, both automatic winding mechanisms.

I thank you in advance for any information.

Very cordially, Abel.

Hello,

the watch looks nice, but inside is working a modified Valoux, Eta. Not expensiv and absolutly correct.
But, If you want a German Watch, with his own Caliber, why dont you buy a original Glashuette, maybie used and in very good condition. Kal.26 or 39.
Look at Chrono24.de, or directly on the Glashuette website.

Regards

Hello Det!!
I thank you so much for your kind response and interesting info about the true movement of this Wempe watch.

I feel rather dissapointed to find that they use a Swiss movement (a good, correct one but nothing special) and sign the watch Glashutte, giving a wrong idea to me.

Of course, I love watches by the Glashutte Original brand, and of course A Lange, but prices are so, so high!! Out of my budget I regret.

The Wempe chrono retails around us$ 2.700,00, and I imagine a Glashutte original must go for much higher amount, even in pre owned market option.

May be best thing would be to stay with my present Rolex collection, and save some money till I can afford a true Glashutte watch!

I thank you very much for your info and time answering.
Receive my best cordial regards, Abel.
