Vintage '50s 6022 repair/restoration

Hey all,

I have an old 6022 that somebody on Reddit told me is probably from the early '50s.

I found this watch among some of my grandpa's things - he used to repair watches back in the '60s, and when he passed some 20 years ago my grandma kept a bunch of his stuff that was in various states of repair. This was in a cigar box along with a bunch of old pocket watches. I have no idea what kind of condition it's in (the second hand moves, but I have no idea if it keeps time), but it hasn't been used since the early '70s at least. I'm interested in getting it cleaned, inspected, and lightly restored back to wearable condition. I think it probably needs a crystal replacement, at least (and a new band, obvs). Can anyone direct me to someone who can do this for me without spending more than the watch is worth? I'd prefer something in the DC area, but will ship if necessary. If you can also give me a ballpark estimate of what it's currently worth and what any work would be likely to cost, that would also be appreciated. Thanks muchly.

Its a nice model 4365 from the early to mid 1950s is my guess. A cleaning, light polish, a new crystal, etc should cost you about $300-400. Once you get it cleaned up a running good, it should sell in the $1100-1300 range. It would be a higher estimate if the case back wasnt hacked up from someone trying to get into the watch without the correct tools.

Yeah, it looks like somebody had at it with a pair of pliers. JFTR, it wasn't me. I'd like to think it wasn't grandpa, either.

Thanks for the info. Is it something I should take to the local watch repair shop in the mall, or should I find a specialist in rolexes or vintage watches? And if so, would you look for something local or am I better shipping it to a specialist somewhere?
